My guess is that nearly everyone is trapped in rem before getting treatment and thats why they remember the dreaming because it was most vivid just before diagnosis

Just out of curiosity I noticed a lot of posters from the States start or finish with "I'm no doctor etc" is it tongue in cheek or a genuine fear of litigation even though your clearly not a doctor and its a public forum?

I've mentioned this book before but since it seems relevant to this thread I will mention it again. I just got done reading the a book called REM Illumination Memory Consolidation

Its a pretty interesting book about REM sleep. You can listen to the first three chapters of the book as audio files over on Sleep Reivew The author includes a ton of reference on research at the end of each chapter. He seems like a really nice guy as I have emailed him a couple of times and he has answered me personally (He also signed the copy of the book when they sent it to me which was a nice touch) Its not a terribly technical book but I think most laypeople would find it interesting.

People are just pointing out that they realize they could be wrong and that they don't have a degree in the subject.

Also there is no reason a doctor couldn't post on here just because it is a public forum. If you have read this post there were a couple sleep technicians that posted.

To add to this post, last night was my first CPAP and I had several dreams mostly related to the CPAP...

Both. It's also an appropriate warning that you're not claiming to be an official recognized expert.
