How do you heat the BiPAP air?

Post by pizzapizza8 » Fri Jan 30, 2009 11:59 pm

Hello from pizzapizza,

Anyone out there in CPAPland have experience with difficulty in heating the air in a Respironics M Series Heated Humidifier on their M Series BiPAP machine? I can't get mine to stop blowing cold air and the User Manuals do not address the matter. It is already plenty cold here in Oregon, and I don't need more cold air blowing on my face.

Last night I tried warming distilled water in the microwave and then putting it in my humidifier water tank. Still cold air blew out.

Can someone give me some pointers?

Thank you, Gracias,

The process by which the humidifier adds moisture to the air is evaporation. Evaporation requires energy. The energy is extracted from the passing air, so the air will get colder. The only way to warm the air is to heat it post humidifier. Try these things.
1. run the hose under the covers so your body heat will warm the air.
2. do the same, but sleep with the cat (ugh) or the dog.
3. move to Australia. We've just had 6 days over 105 degrees, 3 over 110, with overnight minimums close to 90. You'll wish for cold air then.
4. buy a heated hose

Cheers
