Good, Cheap Auto Data Capable Machine?

Post by BeanMeScot » Mon Jan 26, 2009 9:27 am

I work with a woman that needs CPAP badly. She is classic; tired all the time, snores, pees all night, etc. But she feels like she can't afford a sleep study right now. We just changed insurance so she would have to pay over $2k out of pocket and just had to replace the transmission in her car. Since she hasn't had a sleep study, I would like to see if I could find her an APAP data capable machine. What machines would you suggest? Preferbly something with exhalation relief to make it as comfortable as possible.

I have looked on Craigslist. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about the different machines to know which ones match my criteria and which don't. Could someone help out with that?

I bought a lightly used 25 hrs, Sandman Auto APAP from http://www.cpapauction.com, for a VERY good price, 1/3 of the cost of a new machine. No hose or manual was included though & the shipper forgot the power cord, so make sure you ask questions and remind them after you pay for your product. I also bought a brand new Quattro FF Mask from the auction site. I used the CPAP.com site to learn about which machine I might benefit from by reading the machine descriptions, user reviews and watching the videos. I used the same cpap.com site to measure myself for mask options, again I read the various mask types, descriptions and user reviews and it seems to be working pretty darn well, as well as I find long time users are getting from their choices.

I also purchased data software, a hose, hose cover and a few other things new from CPAP.com and also researched other sites for the best price, which CPAP.com matched if the others were lower, so I saved a further $75+ dollars on these extras.

There is a TON of information on CPAP.com and along with thsi forum, you should be able to find most info to narrow down your choices. I could not use insurance, so saving money was a must for me. I narrowed down my most affordable choices of APAP machine data capable machines to the Sandman Auto and the IntelliPap. The user reviews for both were very good and I'm happy with my choice too.

Start exploring CPAP.com, reading all that is offered by you and her is my suggestion.

I MUST stay off my back to reduce OSA & snoring. I use a small backpack of solid styrofoam to keep me on my side (tennis balls too small), & use DIY customized soft foam pillow to keep my head in a side sleeping position to eliminate most OSA.

The problem with this is she won't have a prescription.

if you get down to a couple machines, you can post the urls like SheZAAM! did the other day and get feedback on what to get.

She could get new or used, I'd want a new one you could get it for her with your script online. One like yours would be ideal as you could help her and you have the software already. Jim

I've thought about this as well. I do have a prescription and it would be great if she can afford one like mine. I think the M Series with A Flex offers the best all around flexibility to get the best compliance.
