Respironics M Series

Post by okone3 » Wed Jan 21, 2009 11:04 pm

I have the new Respironis M Series with aflex. I use a Mirage activa mask. It works well as I toss and turn a lot. I can't use the aflex option because the activa goes up and down as I try to sleep. This has to be like Chinese water torture. Is there a mask like the activa for active sleepers that will not drive me crazy going up and down with the aflex? I don't use the feature now, I turned it off. I am ok without it, but I sure would like to use it.

I know mask questions are "what works for you may not work for me" but I am open to suggestions. I am fine with a nasal mask but I like to toss and turn and need a good mask that will not leak. I am not a mouth breather, and don't think I could handle the swift.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Since you are not a mouthbreather you might try the AEROMed Headrest. It is a nasal pillow mask that the hose runs over the head so it makes it very comfortable for those who toss and turn. Rested Gal has made several modifications by decapitating the headgear. You can search her site for directions. I really like the Nasal AireII which is a nasal prong mask. It is very simple and hard to mess up. Babette has several that she will send and let you try for a week before you buy. If you are interested give her a shout and get on her list.

A-Flex machines also have C-Flex capability. You might try using C-Flex instead of A-Flex to see if that makes a difference with your current mask.

I agree with CorgiGirl, try C-Flex especially if you really like your current mask. I can't speak for A-flex but I really like the C-Flex feature as it seems very natural and smooth to me.

I have the same mask and machine. I also can't use A-flex with that mask. I can use C-flex though. It seems to have a smoother transition between exhale and inhale. The mask does still move with the pressure change some but it's a lot more tolerable. It still did take some effort to get used to it but I can now use C-flex set to 3. I could never get used to A-flex with the Activa, not even set to 1.

Sheesh! Jerry, you couldn't recommend the Nasal Aire II?

Original poster - Jerry and I both have the same machine you do, and we're Nasal Aire II users. Though I suspect he's now gone over to the Headrest clique.

Read more about this mask below in the links in my signature block. If you're intersted in test driving this mask before you buy it, PM me.

Cheers,
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

As for Aflex... Many like it. I don't. Not because of the mask, because of the way the machine doesn't synch normally with MY breathing. At this time, I've turned off ALL Flex, and am perfectly comfortable. I was using Cflex for my first year, but recently turned it off and don't miss it.

Cheers,
Barbara

Na, I have not gone to the Headrest. I'm still a NAII guy, I just had my nice guy mode turned on and thought I would give a couple of options!!!!

Thanks for all the help. I will try the cflex. I wonder if the ComfortGel Nasal CPAP Mask with Headgear would work. Maybe even the AEROMed Headrest. Wish I could get them all. My insurance kicks in next month, so I may have some more affordable options. Again, thanks for the help.
