My new oximeter

Post by deerhound » Tue Jan 20, 2009 8:00 pm

I just received my new SPO 7500 this evening I can hardly wait to see how I'm doing with my BiPap treatment as far as oxygen is concerned. In case anyone is interested DHMedical has them on sale for 299.00 free shipping. This is the best price I could find online. http://www.dhmedical.com/spomepuoxmo7.html

Smart move, Dale.

You're going in the right direction.

Do a little "battery research"...and get yourself a half-dozen or so.....from Amazon....or some other Internet vendor. Radio Shack has them....an emergency source.....their price is too high....BUT, they have them "right now".

When the unit starts doing "screwey" things, change the battery. When you get close to the end of battery life, the meter makes you think you still have "juice" left......but, because the voltage drop-off (for that type battery) is abrupt, you can actually be needing a battery....and not know it.

I didn't understand this little "quirk" with the system....and bothered "customer support"....with what I thought was a problem....but wasn't.

It's a fine little tool....you purchased it for about 60% of what I paid.......and even at the higher price, mine has paid for itself. It has helped three different people.

If you have questions, I'll be glad to help.

Has anyone had any luck getting insurance to reimburse on these? Would an Rx for one help?

What about Flex account reimbursement.?

I have been interested and the price is certainly attractive...

Are these meters pretty accurate?
Is there a "better" meter to buy than this one?
Just wondering what you guyswith meters think about it.

Is there a better recording oximeter than this one? Yes, the sky is the limit on price. Is there a better unit for the price? Certainly not that I know of! I have one of the earlier models purchased at a considerably higher price.

In my opinion, it's the "best bang for the buck"....the best value I could find.

It does just what I need it to do....it's another way to check my therapy for effectiveness.

Anytime we can view a problem (OSA) from two different directions, we obtain a depth of understanding that's unobtainable with the use of just one tool.

Do most people on CPAP use a pulse-ox ? How often is it used?

OCNorsk - I can't say but would imagine that MOST people on the forum do NOT have an Oximeter. That's a guess on my part since I know a number of people do, including myself.

There was a poll just recently about having and using an oximeter. You could search it and see.

As for how often it is used - I use mine when I see something on my data that I am wondering about and also, when I change masks for some reason and am trying a mask new to me - to see if levels are different with a different mask.

I have not had mine very long and have used it twice in about 3 months time.

Thanks. I was curious as a friend and I were thinking we should get one. I really don't know why. Knowing us it was probably a competitive thing. "My oxygen saturation is higher than yours." I see shiny object. I want.

I use mine once a week.

Does anyone know what the product code on amazon.com is for the battery?

The last time I purchased batteries, they were actually sold by Cyberguys....thru Amazon. That was in 2007.

I checked just now.....and didn't see Cyberguys listed as an Amazon Vendor.

Since 2007, I've become a direct customer of Cyberguys.com.....and found them to be excellent. Highly recommended.

The link for the battery needed for the SPO-7500 follows.....

http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/Sear ... uctID=1347

The battery you're looking for is by SAFT, its number is LST14250, it's a 1/2AA size, 3.6V, Lithium.

imho it's much more than that since at least one result of good xPAP therapy is to increase the o2 saturation in our blood. As I understand it the low o2 saturation is what wrecks all kinds of havoc with one's brain and organs and contributes to inflammation which can impact cardiovascular disease and many other diseases.

Optimizing to make sure o2 saturation is at least above 89% is a good thing! It also helps me figure out if a change is helping or making things worse.

I agree with Mindy - for me, it's the only way I KNOW my therapy is working seeing as I don't actually FEEL any different.
