Now I sleep with two masks!

Post by gasp » Mon Jan 19, 2009 12:39 pm

OK, I realize my subject line "Now I sleep with two masks!" was a bit of a tease. However, I am now actually sleeping with two masks - a XPAP mask (the CL2) and an eye mask.

It all started because of vanity. My CL2 pushed my forehead down and the nasal pillows pushed my nose up into my forehead thereby causing a small wrinkle at the top of the nose near my forehead. I decided to try a light silk eye mask under the forehead piece to see if it would reduce the friction and keep my forehead/nose area skin flat. Not only did it work for that, I had the best night sleep ever! I was astounded!

I've discovered that by wearing an eye mask, I am sleeping deeper and longer. And, what the heck, what's another apparatus strapped on my head? My numbers are consistently 0.x - 1.x versus 0.x - 3.x. I feel so rested. Yeah!

Since finding the eye mask works so well, I bought one that allows space for my eyes versus pressing on them http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015Y754Y. I chose the Escape Luxury Sleep Mask with Earplugs and Travel Pouch - Black because it has the space and because it was large enough to fit under the CL2 forehead piece. The picture below shows looking at the inside of the mask that's next to your eyes.

The only complaint I have is that my face is small and the mask goes down too far under each eye. If anyone is interested I'll post measurements.

I'm astounded how much better I sleep - perhaps this will help you too : )

Hmm. An eye mask. Might get one of those for my wife--even the slightest light disturbs her sleep. I've put electrical tape on all of the LEDs in our bedroom, but still need a little light from the bathroom when I'm getting ready for work, and I know that even indirect light from the next room disturbs her sleep. Thanks for the idea!

There are so many masks out there. Each person will probably look for different things.

I recommend:
- contoured to keep pressure off the eye.
- washable
- light blocking material on bottom of mask (either side of nose)

I looked up nationwide stores and see that Walmart sells a couple in their stores and I understand they allow returns if the product doesn't work out:

So now we can call you "Señor ZORRO" or CATWOMAN right?

... also the eyes mask help you to don't be affected by air-leaks going to your eyes...

My daughter has worn a sleep mask for years because she likes total darkness to sleep but I have never tried one. Maybe I will just for the heck of it. Good suggestion.

Wow, nice - I didn't think of the sexy cat woman angle. I'll have to try that one on tonight and see how it fits : ) And yes, you are so right, thanks for noting the air leak prevention! I forgot to mention it but the CL2 exhausts into the eye area if covers or pillow diverts the air flow. The sleep mask keeps my eyes draft free! : )

I have worn a mask to sleep for many years. I get this

from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A7VRU0 because they are lightweight and not hot. I was concerned when I started CPAP that I wouldn't be able to use one anymore but it works fine with my Swift LT.
