CPAP store in Austin or San Antonio?

Post by beth1954 » Fri Jan 16, 2009 11:54 am

I have been to CPAP/medical supply places a few times.....I can't find a place that know what they are doing!! I always leave there with something that doesn't work!! I'm still unhappy with what I have and I need to find one that works for me. I like one that just goes over my nose--small--nasal pillows are ok too.
Any suggestions?

Have you checked out cpap.com? They host this forum and have a huge variety of masks. The best part is reading the reviews and hearing waht real users have to say about the masks.

Yeah, I've looked at every mask they have. I look at them and they just seem like something I can't deal with. I just want something that I can use and be compliant. So far I can't find one.

What have you tried so far, styles and sizes?

You know, I just don't remember all the names of things like most of you do! I just don't pay attention. The first one I had was a pretty big mask--didn't go over my mouth. I tried a couple of other ones.....one being the Breeze nasal mask.....I DON'T like the ones that go over my head, or around my neck.
What I have now is a Mirage Swift II with the nasal pillows. I don't "hate" this. I do have a problem with leaks and just getting comfortable turning over and having to make sure the tube is in the right place. I guess that's with any of them though.

The Mirage Vista Simplicity nasal cpap mask looks interesting. I also liked the look of the CPAPRRO? the one with no headgear, but a mouth piece to hold it in place. I read the ratings, though and didn't like that.

I just want something not too cumbersome, NOT a full face mask (as little as possible on my face.) The ones I've had so far have only taken sleep away from me. I got a heated humidifier which helped the horrible dry mouth.

Have you tried the Nasal Aire II? There are many different options for how to wear it. There is a pdf on Innomed's NAII page that shows the many options. http://www.mergenetsolutions.com/innomedinc/na2.htm

There's a test drive for it run by Babette so you can try it before you buy it.

It doesn't look too bad. I'm just not sure about the tubing that goes right over the ear, and also how it fits around the neck.........

Well if you find a way to secure the tubing good before it reaches the top of your head then you could probably just forgo wrapping it around the ears and neck and bring it directly from the top of your head to an overhead hanger. I haven't used that mask yet but I'm going to try it soon. I do however use a very simple hose hanger mounted on my wall (no headboard, gotta get one of those) consisting of a scrunchie and a large 3m "Command Strip" plastic hook.

I don't know......I'm going to have to check into all of this so that i will have one that I can tolerate in the hospital because I'll have it on more than usual. I don't like the one I have and usually fling it off not even halfway into the night. (as I've always done)
I like the looks of the Nasal Aire II because you can wear it with basically no headgear-which I hate. I just want to find the solution and it's making me nuts. Especially when you go to places where no one knows what the cr*p they are talking about.
