The problem was never resolved. I did more research and found that the cpap I use does not run on DC if set above 11 inches of pressure. Does not make sense but it is what it is.

Thanks for all the comments.

Barry, that does not make sense ... You should be getting about 12.3 vdc (volts direct current) from your AC brick output (that's what mine puts out) I also question your battery output.

Do you have a multimeter to check for actual volts?

A good charged "12 vdc" charged battery will be right at 12.8 vdc (once it has the "surface charge" reduced ... my truck measured at 12.9 vdc with it shut off (I may not have waited long enough for the "surface charge to wear off ...) ... when it is running (NOT recommended by Respironics) it is putting out 13.9 vdc which has not botthered my RemStar Auto A-Flex (PR System One model 550) for the two nights I've used it like that.

I went the "Radio Shack" route because of CONVENIENCE, even though it would have been about $10 cheaper than getting a Respironces power cord from our host (I'd rather have that) but I had just started a new over the road trucking job, and discovered during my orientation that we were not allowed to have a power invertor in the truck, (Which I had been using in my prior truck) I did not have TIME to order it and have it delivered . . . so, I found a Radio Shack and made it work!

shawn,
i might get flamed for this but if the co. would allow it perhaps using a jump starter to power your machine then you could use the truck to charge the jumper while you are driving?
it would still be preferably to run the machine on dc power rather than thru an inverter

you may want to first check with someone who is registered here tho
and uses at least 3 names in their made up username
it makes them more credible?
sorry that was left over from the battery power thread

Sorry, I checked every other option ... no extra electircal source allowed, no jump packs, no deep cell batteries, solar ... NOTHING!

Not even my own small generator, no gas (propane or gasoline) No modifcations at ALL!

It either has to plug into the lighter style outlet, or it is forbiden (Think termination if found!)

I did what I had to do ...

Guest, Why don't you register? It is quite easy, and has certian privleges too!

you do know the jumpstarter does plug into the lighter style outlet only for charging?
but it would also isolate the cpap from any spikes caused by the engine running
or plug it in after sleeping
or maybe you could get them to pay for a motel?

no thanks
this forum seems to be loaded with people who search the board to find things to argue about
guess they think it somehow makes them superior to others
thanks anyway

Yes I realise that, but ... it still is "another source of electricity" which is not allowed ... I spend 90%+ of my time on the road, they provided me with a large sleeper birth on the truck to sleep in, no way would they pay for a motel, besides, sometimes because of the Federal Hours of service regulations ... I get to sleep at rest area's or the shipper or reciever ...

Just because it plugs into a lighter outlet does not means it qualifies ... coffeemakers, microwaves, crockpots, space heaters are also forbiden, and if found means I get terminated (Fired)

What I have come up with works ... not sure how long I'm gonna keep this job anyways ...!
