Thanks, you just made my day. I have been dreading going to Vista because of the problems with running Encore Pro. Now if my computer will just last until us mortals can buy one with Windows 7 installed on it.

From what I understand Windows 7 is just new marketing for Vista. What I am wondering is the x64 meaning it is 64 bit? That's what folks were having troubles with not Vista.

I have been using Vista Home Premium Edition and Encore Pro 1.8.49 with no troubles at all. You do have to set the services for the card reader to start automatically. But Vista has been more stable for me than XP Pro and with much better memory management too. I can go weeks w/o rebooting. Make sure you get at least 3G of memory for Vista too, you won't be disappointed.

I assumed the X64 was for 64 bit but maybe they found a was to get normal programs to run in the 64 bit format. If this is Vista 64 hiding under another name because Vista has gotten such a bad rap then I am depressed again. I came from Windows ME and have been so happy with the stability of XP.

Correct me if I am wrong but you comment on the memory has me confused. I was under the impression that if you got more than 3Gigs of memory all the Vistas except for Vista Ultimate (which will let you sellect 32 or 64) would automatically shift to 64 bit and give you no choice.

I know very little about Vista ( I keep talking to people that have it) and it has me scared because my computer is getting so old I am afraid it won't work soon and from what I have read on this board even in 32 bit it is still a problem to get Encore Pro to work for those of us who do not know a lot about computers. I have been waiting for Babette to try to load Encore Pro on her new laptop running Vista 32. Figure if she can get it running there is a chance for me.

Yes X64 means 64-bit. Windows 7 64-Bit.

There was one thing I did have to fix, I forget what it was... If you install and encounter an error I'll try to help you fix it. I think it was something related to MSDE. That way we can post the instructions for everyone.

I've had more blooming trouble with that MSDE. However, I've had successful EP installations on Vista 32 bit and XP without SP 2 or SP 3. I can't wait to get the Windows 7 installed over my Vista 64. I'll probably be begging for help. So watch out! And I really do like Vista.

I can only admire (or is it shake my head in utter disbelief) at someone with the courage (or is it... ) the fortitude to use any OS that has not yet had its first birthday, and in BETA much less......

When working with the normal Windows offerings, you are also working with beta programming, the only difference is you pay for the program, and have less people trying to correct the code. Jim

I haven't trusted MS since IE 3 crashed my computer years ago. Every MS program is in beta testing as far as I'm concerned.

One thing I want to point out, hopefully it helps someone... It seems like every time I run Encore Pro I need to uninstall the smartcard reader (through Device Manager) and then plug it back in (and have it reconnected). It's not related to Encore Pro, it must still be something flaky with the driver. I can tell this needs to be done because the LED is red on the reader, after it's re-detected it turns green. Hope this helps.
