I have been using my machine since the July 2008. I was not sure how much progress I was making. I knew I was sleeping deeper and getting more rested. I was not sleeping longer. I still wake up in the night, ready to be up. I average about 6 hours sleep. I called the technician that handles my needs and asked for advice. She sent me a new card and asked me to send in the one I had been using. I did and in a few days she called me back. After reading my card she said my progress was good. I was down from 80+ apnea events per hour to less than 1 event per hour. I am pretty happy about that but still wish I could get more than 6 hours sleep.

Re: My Progress
I used to sleep for 8 - 10 hours a night. Since starting xpap I sleep about 6 1/2 hrs per night. Seems that 6 1/2 hours of real sleep is all my body requires. My AHI is under 1.0 ( usually under 0.5) and I usually have a perfectly straight leak line (at the recommended leak for mask being used). I sleep thru the entire night with no waking(not even for the bathroom) and I feel great. Everyone has different needs, I guess I just need less sleep than others. Could be you only need about 6 hrs per night.

Re: My Progress
Six hours of sleep a night, sometimes just five, with effective "cpap" treatment seems to do me fine. Occasionally if I've had several 5 hour nights in a row there will be a 7 or 8 hour night. I think of those as catch-up sessions.
I think Brenda nailed it. With good cpap treatment, and no other health issues or sleep issues going on, six hours of really "good breathing" sleep seems to be a'plenty for many of us.
Sounds like things are going well for you, OceanGoingGal! That's great!
My name's Laura, too.
