When I asked PB Tech Support about the criteria for flow limitation runs and how to interpret the cycle states graph (and what the units of measurement are), they just sent me this "brochure" describing the Sandman Auto "Algorithm":

http://www.katzung.net/osa/SandmanAutoAlgorithm.pdf

It answers the question about FLR criteria, but doesn't completely answer the cycle states question. However, it does reinforce my belief that it's something like % of recent peak inspiratory flow amplitude.

That PDF did not quite state exactly what the cycles states are but there is a Run of Inspiratory Flow Limitation in which amplitude peaks are the same but there is flatting of the curve like a square wave with a leading edge overshoot which gives a .1cm pressure increase. Then there is an Inspiratory Flow-Limited and Hypopneic cycles with both an amplitude decrease and Flattening of the curve in which there is a .3cm increase in pressure. My old ResLink module on the old S7 ResMed S7 auto had a separate minute ventilation curve and a flatting curve which does not show the actual wave form. Looks like the cycles states is the Inspiratory Flow Limitation in the beginning and then becomes the Inspiratory Flow-Limited with a Hypopneic cycle as the curve goes deeper.
