CPAP Memory Foam Pillow
CPAP Memory Foam Pillow
Has anyone tried the CPAP Memory Foam Pillow by Confortaire, Inc. that they have on CPAP.com? There is only one review on the website. I have a regular memory foam pillow, but I'm a side sleeper, and I keep getting mask leaks. I think a CPAP pillow might help, but I'm babied by the memory foam. The only review was negative, though. $60 is a lot to drop if it doesn't work. Thanks for any input.

Re: CPAP Memory Foam Pillow
Well, first thing, learn to sleep on the EDGE of the pillow, with your face completely hanging off it, so there's no pillow-to-mask contact. Whenever I roll over, I automatically reach up and push my pillow in the opposite direction, until my face is completely free of the pillow.
If you can't manage that, due to your mask configuration, either cut up your pillow, or switch masks.
I highly recommend cutting up your pillow, if you are otherwise happy with your mask. First, don't do it with your spendy current pillow. Go to Big Lots and buy a cheap $12 memory foam pillow. I've found them for the same price at Ross, too. Then go to Goodwill and find an old electric meat carving knife. Use that to cut a divet in your pillow.
Then figure out how to create a pillow case to follow that divet. You're on your own there.
Good luck!

Re: CPAP Memory Foam Pillow
My husband sleeps on a memory foam pillow bought at Walmart for $12. Thanks to Babette and Carbonman's encouragement, I used a carving knife to make a half moon on both sides, and although not perfectly leak free, it works pretty well. He's a side sleeper and quite restless. The only mistake I made on my first try was not leaving enough pillow to cradle his neck, so off we go again to Walmart, maybe we can find the same pillow in a Queen.

cat, I tried one of the pillows that are similar to that one andkaydacat wrote: I think a CPAP pillow might help, but I'm babied by the memory foam. The only review was negative, though. $60 is a lot to drop if it doesn't work. Thanks for any input.
it was terrible. I sent it back.
I found a memory foam pillow on sale for $20.
Here is what Babette and DoriC are talking about.
It has proved to be a very comfortable and functional pillow.
I used a standard utility knife.
Slice and dice......fear not.
I have a way of pushing my mask into the pillow and it prevents leaks.
I don't know how to explain that, you'll have to figure it out on your own.

Babs is sooooooooooo right on this mark, regardless of which pillow you choose.Babette wrote:Well, first thing, learn to sleep on the EDGE of the pillow, with your face completely hanging off it, so there's no pillow-to-mask contact. Re: CPAP Memory Foam Pillow
Thanks so much for all of the advice. I especially appreciate the pics from Carbonman. I slept on the edge of my pillow last night, and it helped a bit. I'm off to buy a cheap-o memory foam pillow tonight, so that I can obliterate it with a utility knife and see what kind of comfort I can get!! This forum is great, and I am SO glad that I found it. I would be lost without it. I've only been on CPAP for 15 days, and it's been quite a trial, and I'm sure it will be a trial for months to come, but I already feel more rested and healthy.

Yay Kaydacat!
Hang in there, buddy. We've all been there, and we got to a better place.
Dori & Carbonman, (sorry, I can't see the pix at work) did you modify your pillowcases at all?
Cheers,
Babs

Re: CPAP Memory Foam Pillow
Hello---I am a side sleeper too, and I use a queen size down filled pillow from Costco. I find that I can form the pillow any way that I need it and hang my face and mask off the edge like Babs said. It works great!!! Keep trying--you will get there ---!!!!

Re: CPAP Memory Foam Pillow
I just tuck the pillowcase under on each side, our pillowcases fit our original Queen size pillows so there's lots of material to tuck under and they pretty much stay put. We still haven't found the ideal pillow solution yet but for our first try with the old carving knife we got some experience for the next experiment.
