help buying used machine?
help buying used machine?
Help Me please. I have located a used Res Med S7 elite for sale in craigslist. $100.00 ore best resonable offer.it comes with all books , hose and acessories i think it has a mask. I have looked the macine up on the net it looks like this is an older discountinued machine. If so can you still get all and any needed parts readily to keep it maintaned? What parts would you change when i get it if i do? filters etc , just clean macine with what kind os cleaner. the macine is suposed to be from a smoke free home ive already asked that. The machine is 3 hrs away from where i live but seller is willing to ship. so i havent seen machine in person only picture of it.
Im looking at geting this macine to use as my first machine till i can get qualifed to get a macine through Texas Rehab. when and if i get a new machine the s7 will become a back up machine.
What do you all think?

Re: help buting used machine?
You will need to ask someone on the forum to give you the clinicians guide so that you can set it to your correct pressure. Have you had a sleep study and know what your pressure is?
Any hoses, headgear, masks, humidifier, etc. should be cleaned thoroughly before using. You can purchase some Controll III to help sanitize your equipment. I must admit I just use hot soapy water for cleaning any used items I have purchased and so far it hasn't apparently affected my health. As far as the machine goes, I would change the filters and let it run for a while during the day to air it out.
Others will chime in and have suggestions as well.
Some may discourage you from buying on craigslist -- but I have had success in purchasing a few things from there and having it shipped.
Good luck.

The manual should be in this link:sleepycarol wrote:You will need to ask someone on the forum to give you the clinicians guide so that you can set it to your correct pressure. Have you had a sleep study and know what your pressure is?

The S7 series was discontinued about 3 years ago, but as long as the machine blows the proper amount of air, that's what you want it for. The machines I own were built between 2005 and 2007......and I don't plan on upgrading for a LONG time. They blow air and are data capable.....and that's all I need.
Nothing user-serviceable on the inside of the machines, so just focus on the filters, hose, humidifier and mask.
Good luck.

Re: help buying used machine?
hummer, you'll be able to set the pressure yourself.
As Den said, there's no maintenance to do to the machine. Just change or clean the filter regularly.
If the machine happens to come with a humidifier, use distilled water only in the humidifier.

Re: help buying used machine?
I haven't purchased anything from craigslist but I bought a brand new Respironics pre-M Series Auto w/C-Flex complete from soneone on yahooauction when that auction was still in existence, 0 hours on it when I got it. I bought a used Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage complete from a member of this forum w/only 505 hours on it and I bought a lightly used Respironics pre-M Series Bi-PAP Auto w/Bi-Flex from someone at cpapauction complete except for the carrying case. I feel I more than got my money's worth out of each device. All three were and are worth every penny I paid.
No need to worry about any of us here castigating you for buying a used xPAP!!! I liked and felt comfortable w/the "protections" that yahooauction and cpapauction provide for both buyer and seller and I felt comfortable buying from an established member of this forum.

Re: help buying used machine?
Craig's list might work out fine. The CPAP Auction link could tell you what a machine is worth. There is a S7 lightweight on there now right at $100. If I get turned down on my new APAP, I'll be checking out the auctions for S8 AutoSet II.--Hoping the insurance just pays.
Machine might need to be tested to be sure it is blowing right pressure. My local hospital will test machines. My DME will also test, but maybe only machines they sell.
Good Luck

Re: help buying used machine?
It would be useful to get a machine that used software to download useful data, but a basic machine will get you by if set correctly. For me I'd get nothing that didn't tell me what was going on every night, then If I could I'd get a back-up machine to cover problems with the first. After you get your treatment working correctly, you won't want to spend a night without it. Jim

Re: help buying used machine?
well I decided to wait ,and chose not to buy the s7. I looked at the used machines on the forum auctions and decided it would be beter to buy a newer machine with a humidifier . so i will keep an eye out for an s8 to come up.
Thanks for all the great advice! I love this forum and all the great info, you fellow cpap'ers have to offer

You know.....you're going to have to have a prescription to purchase one from CPAPAuction.com.hummer3d wrote:well I decided to wait ,and chose not to buy the s7. Re: help buying used machine?
Re S8 machines, the newer models (the S8 II ones) are definitely an improvement although I have no complaints with my older S8 model.hummer3d wrote:well I decided to wait ,and chose not to buy the s7. If you can get a Vantage (Auto) go for it - do avoid the Escape model but only because it doesn't provide nightly data - as a simple cpap it
is excellent (I had one prior to the Vantage). S7 models are fine too but the blowers are noisier than the S8 models.
But, if you are looking at cpapauction, there are a good few Respironics machines that show up as well.
