No humidity, sore nose!

Post by garyland » Sun Dec 28, 2008 6:15 am

Last night I forgot to turn on my humidity. Apparently, only the left side of my nose was clear so all of the air was coming in the left side. I woke up at 4 am with a sore (inside) nose. Is that normal? I ask that because of the potential damage that I previously may or may not have done with that Afrin use. Thanks.

I went most of the summer without any humidity and, in fact, took the humidifier off from the machine. Once the cold weather hit and our furnace came on I continued to not use any humidity. Thought I could tough it out and it would show I could run with the big dogs (I know stupid -- but hey I am a female)

I ended up with a sinus infection that I blame partly on the dryness of my nasal passages as they burned and stung most of the day. Do you think I would give in? Oh no -- I still had a point to make. It finally got so bad I made a trip to the doctor and was given antibiotics to clear the infection and then I decided I was going to use my humidifier.

In order to answer your question, I would have to say in my experience yes it is normal to have the burning and stinging in your nasal passages. Be sure to use your humidifier tonight.

Thanks Carol. That is the info I was seeking. With using that Afrin for 18 months once a day. My nose is not 100 percent right. I only hope that eventually it will return to normal. If not, I have no choice but to live with it.

You might want to try some Ayr Gel on the sore to see if you can get it to feeling better.

Although you aren't suppose to and I am not advocating you do it -- I have put a very small dab of ointment on the inside of my nasal passages where I have a sore -- especially one that scabs over.

I am sorry Carol. I could have worded it better. I meant a sore nose on the inside as opposed to a sore outer nose like from a poorly fitted mask.

Hey -- my mistake. The first time I read your post I thought that was what you meant -- but after posting and rereading it I thought you may actually have a sore. Just try to cover my bases!!
