couple ???'s resmed s8 autoset II

Post by hose head » Fri Dec 26, 2008 9:38 am

I'm still learning about my machine. The first thing is it blows air after it is turned off. Is this normal? It stops after 10 or 15 minutes. The other question has to due with it ramping up to a high for me pressure. The other night it did this where almost as soon as it came on it ramped up to 12.6. I have the range set to 6 to 15.7. This happened the first night I switched the Swift LT. I ending up not using mask that night.
Last night in the middle of the night the pressure went way up. I did not see the number, but I took off mask and turned off machine. I woke in a little while and put it on again, my head was so stopped up that the air took a while to get through. My leak rate last night was .20 L/s. So is my head messing with the machine pressure and everything will go back to normal when my head clears? Or do leaks cause the machine ramp up and I need to watch for leaks?
Thanks,
M

I think I can answer the 1st question & that is that the machine while powered on will blow a small amount of air through the machine if there is a H/H attached.
It does this to keep moisture from entering the body of the machine while the H/H water is still warm.

Re the other questions, hopefully someone else with that mask machine combo can help.

PS 6 CMs seems a rather low setting to be starting with as the low pressure settings. You would be far better off starting at 8 or 9 CMs at the low end.

Yes,that's normal. Its to clear any condensate out of the hose and mask.

Cheers,

Bill

I have experienced the very same thing with the ResMed Autoset II. It does make sense it is clearing the hose. So, that is one of the differences between the ResMed and the M Series. My M Series Auto shuts off immediately when I press the off button.

Thanks for info. I thought it was something the machine was 'sposed to do. I went to DME yesterday and got medium pillows for my Swift LT mask. They made a big difference last night. Now I wish I could get rid of the rest of this cold.

hose head, you may already have this, but in case you don't...

If you'd like to have the Clinical manual for your machine, I'll be glad to email a PDF of it to you. Just PM me your email address.
