I have numbers and I don't know what they mean!
So yesterday I found a post on how to get into the clinicians menu to get your information each morning. (I am on the rental that they send home with you for 2-4 weeks to get your settings) I don't have my own machine yet - hense no software, etc...
ANYWAY - I have the numbers from last night -- but they seem to be written in Greek.
Press. 11.6
Leak 0.18L/s
AHI 1.9
AI 0.0
HI 1.9
Help!

Re: I have numbers and I don't know what they mean!
Those are EXCELLENT numbers from an S8 machine (which have a tendency to score higher HI numbers)

WOW!!!! You're doing great! Any AHI under 5 is considered normal. On your machine leaks need to be under .40, I like to see under .20, so your leaks are fine. Keep up the good work!

Re: I have numbers and I don't know what they mean!
You said the numbers were Greek to you, and it seems nobody actually went over the individual numbers and what they mean.
Press. 11.6: This is your pressure during the night. If you are running in auto mode, it is an average. Pressure is what it is because it's what you need to keep apnea events from happening. Some people require less pressure, and some require more. I'd say your are toward the lower end.
Leak 0.18L/s: This is your total leak rate over the night. This measures leaks coming from your mask not sealing very well, or if you open your mouth during the night. It's the way the machine detects air escaping.
AHI 1.9: Total apneas adn hypopneas during the night. You always want to see this number under 5.
AI 0.0: Total apneas which tells you how many times the machine detected pauses in breathing. If it were high consistently, you would need to do some adjustments to lower it (i.e. increase your pressure)
HI 1.9: Total hypopneas which tells you how many times the machine detected shallow breathing. Like it was said before, Resmed machines are typical for registering a higher HI.

I forgot this:
AHI is Apnea Hypopnea Index
AI is Apnea Index
HI is Hypopnea Index
AHI is Apnea Hypopnea Index
AI is Apnea Index
HI is Hypopnea Index

Re: I have numbers and I don't know what they mean!
Beautiful results!!!
I may be wrong, but I think these mean:
Press. 11.6 - The 95th centile pressure. If your Vantage was set for auto mode (a range of pressures from "minimum" to "maximum") it varied the pressure as needed, throughout the night. That "95th % pressure" means it used THAT pressure AND pressures BELOW that pressure 95% of the time. Doesn't mean it used just THAT pressure 95 per cent of the time.
Leak 0.18L/s - Zero is a perfect leak rate with a ResMed machine, since they already subtract the expected normal exhaust vent rate from whatever "mask selection" you set it for. As Brenda said, anything under 0.40 with a ResMed is considered ok. You're getting a very nice low leak rate. The "L/s" is Liters per second.
AHI 1.9 - Apnea/Hypopnea Index. An "average per hour" of events (apneas/hypopneas) that sneaked through despite treatment.
Further broken down into:
AI 0.0 - Apnea Index. You had no apneas.
HI 1.9 - Hypopnea Index. You had a tiny number of hypopneas sneak through.
No big deal...an index of 1.9 is an EXTREMELY low number of "hypopneas."
With a ResMed machine I personally don't worry about an AHI being above 5 (like up to 8 or 9 even) IF there was a very, very low AI (apnea index) and the what ran the AHI up was mostly hypopneas (the HI index.)
As Den said, ResMed machines usually report more hypopneas than other brands do. Each manufacturer has its own definition of when a flow limitation is to be called a "hypopnea", for the purposes of how their own algorithms are designed to work. I always get two or three times the number of hypopneas reported with a ResMed machine compared to same settings, same mask, same everything, with other brands of autopaps. I'd consider that number that you got to be effectively "zero" hypopneas if it were me!!
How the AHI (Apnea/Hypopnea Index) is figured:
Add together the apneas and hypopneas. Ignore the snores and flow limitations. Just add the apneas and hypopneas together. Divide that number by the total number of hours you slept.
Example:
3 apneas, 7 hypopneas = 10
Slept 6 hours (divide 10 by 6) = 1.6
The AHI for that night is 1.6

Lasr bight was a really good night. I had been having serious mouth breathing problems - so last night I taped my mouth shut...let me just say - my husband thought it was great! Weirdo.

If your husband tells you it may be helpful to practice the mouth taping during the day, don't fall for it! Looks like you're off to a good start.

Tell him to be careful...karma is a mean thing sometimes.mbridget wrote:Lasr bight was a really good night. I had been having serious mouth breathing problems - so last night I taped my mouth shut...let me just say - my husband thought it was great! Weirdo.
My GF laughed at me when I first taped my mouth shut at night. A couple of years later, she gets OSA and she mouth breathes right off the bat. I have switched to polident strips by then and she tries those. They don't work for her, sooooooo, she now tapes her mouth shut at night.
Show him this post...LOL
