"jet lag?"

Post by ciounoi » Fri Dec 19, 2008 12:36 pm

I had been sleeping on the bipap at least two hours a night (trying to get more!) for the past two weeks or so and have been feeling quite awesome! However, I got a cold with a runny nose on Tuesday night and decided that I would not be able to bipap that night. Wednesday I didn't feel too sleepy, and my runny nose was also better, and I was back on that night (Wednesday) and managed another two hours with negligible apneas. Thursday, however, I felt TERRIBLE. Despite being on the bipap the night before, I was ready for sleep by like... 11 AM. Last night (Thursday) I managed an unprecedented 3+ hours sleeping on bipap. Today I am definately very sleepy, but also better than yesterday.

Could this be happening because of a kind of sleep apnea jet lag? It occurred to me that I might STILL be feeling the effects of Tuesday night... and that by going off bipap for that one night turned back the progress I've made in recent weeks. Anybody have any answers?

Thanks!
Grace
Not your stereotypical xpap user! 5 feet tall, healthy weight, female, and 23. I've had OSA undiagnosed at least since high school.

In addition to OSA, I also order up random food I don't like while I'm asleep.

Was browsing the site... could it be xpap withdrawal?

Well, I'd say you're still in "initial therapy break in mode" and every little variable is going to upset your system. No real help for it except to keep persevering and trying to use the machine as much as you can. Until you're 100% compliant all night every night, there's no way to tell if you're exhausted because you DIDN'T use the machine, or because you DID use the machine, but something went wrong.

Once you're 100% compliant, then you can start trying to identify what other variables might be in play - 1) Sleep Debt - which many of us say takes weeks and even months to cancel out, 2) Mask Leak, 3) Mouth Leak, 4) Poor pressure choices.

Really hard to say right now.

Good luck!!!!!
