Delayed sleep phase syndrome & CPAP
Delayed sleep phase syndrome & CPAP
Has any one had delayed sleep phase syndrome? This is where you body clock is set in such a way that you want to sleep late and wake up late. Has the CPAP helped you? They usually tell you to get light exposure in the mornings to adjust your body clock.
I do have DSPS and have been using CPAP for my apnea for a while, but it has not affected my DSPS.

I don't do mornings !!!

Here is a description off a websight. Search on google or eBay and good deals can be had. They are very popular in Alaska where the light in different seasons are extreme
We've been building the world's best light boxes for more than two decades.
For many years, the world's leading light therapy researchers and doctors have known that full-spectrum, 10,000 lux light boxes can be very effective at treating seasonal affective disorder and other circadian rhythm related mood disorders. They also know that no one does 10,000 lux better than Apollo Health, which is why we're the world's most-recommended, best-selling brand.
Now we're building the world's best blue spectrum light therapy device.
Recently, researchers have discovered that a very specific range of blue light is the most effective color (wavelength) in treating these disorders. Apollo has spent the last several years working with leading experts to develop a new product based on this research, and we're proud to announce the goLITE P1. This patent-pending product delivers only the most effective wavelengths, which means a more convenient treatment, and fewer side effects than traditional 10,000 lux full-spectrum light therapy devices.
BLUEWAVE™ Technology
Patent-pending BLUEWAVE™ is the result of ten years of research with medical universities and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Other companies may tout the benefits of this new research. Only Apollo has participated in this research and we are the only company to produce lights that provide 100% of the effective blue light.
Used at NASA & by Research Experts
BLUEWAVE™ technology is so effective that it has been used at NASA as the preferred method to regulate astronaut’s and shuttle crews’ sleep/wake schedules. BLUEWAVE was also demonstrated at the June 2004 Society for Research in Biological Rhythms (SRBR) Medical Conference, where leading researchers recognized Apollo's BLUEWAVE as the definitive lighting technology for regulating circadian rhythms.
Technology of the Future
BLUEWAVE™ is so significant because it provides a higher effective response than most full spectrum light, but at 1/10th the intensity 10,000-lux. This means light therapy is not only convenient but easier on the eyes with fewer side effects. Because BLUEWAVE™ is so effective, all of our BRITEWAVE™ products have also been upgraded with BLUEWAVE™ technology. Indeed, BLUEWAVE™ is the technology of the future.

Don't be fooled by cheap imitations. Apollo's BLUEWAVE™ Technology is the only clinically proven blue light source to treat mood disorders.
BLUEWAVE™ – THE MOST EFFECTIVE TECHNOLOGY
BLUEWAVE™ VS. FULL-SPECTRUM (10,000 lux)
The specific bandwidth of light that is responsible for treating SAD and related circadian rhythm disorders ranges from 446 – 477 nm (nanometers), and is up to 5 times more effective than other wavelengths. This spectral graph shows that only Apollo’s patented BLUEWAVE™ technology precisely matches this specific bandwidth.
BLUEWAVE LED technology produces the same amount of effective light
as natural sunlight, while 10,000-lux full-spectrum produces less than 40%. Because BLUEWAVE produces 100% of the necessary bandwidth, it elicits a stronger and quicker response. Clinical trials have shown BLUEWAVE LED technology to be effective in treating SAD.
How is BLUEWAVE™ Measured? 10,000 lux vs. Photons/cm2
Because BLUEWAVE™ represents only a narrow slice of the visible light spectrum, it cannot be measured accurately with a lux meter. Lux meters measure the total spectral energy from all visible wavelengths, not specific bandwidths. This is why BLUEWAVE™ intensity is measured in photons/cm instead of in lux.
Warning!
Many light therapy companies make false claims regarding their products' performance and safety. Apollo has participated in more research than all other light therapy companies combined. In fact, most of our competitors quote research conducted with Apollo lights. You should verify any claims made by any company selling light therapy devices. Many of our competitors claim to be "#1", or to have safe and effective products. Ask them to prove it!

Hi I read your reply and wondered. The theory is that your melotonine-levels are shifted (they start rising later than normal). The goal of light-threatment is to get your melotonine-levels up earlier (the melatonine makes you sleepy).rock and roll wrote:..... is getting a GoLITE and I use it before bedtime. 15 mminutes later, I knock off.
You can influence your melotonine-levels with light-threatment. By exposing yourself to daylight (or in this case to 10000 lux) you are telling your body to stop producing the melatonine earlier in the day. Because your body is on a 24hour cycle, the result is that your body will start producing melatonine earlier (in the evening of that same day).
What I'm trying to tell you is that you should sit in front of the light in the morning. Not just before bedtime. You are making it worse by doing it after sunset! That way you are telling your body not to produce melatonine because it is still daytime.
My doctor just prescriped light treatment to me ..(That is why I am surfing these forums).
He made a scedule for me to start the treatment
30 min exposure (10000 lux) at 11.00
every 3 days shift the start by 1/2 hour until 09.30
then shift start every week by 15 min until 08.00
the duration of exposure remains 30 min
excuse my english writing (I'm Dutch)

In theory you are right. But my doctor said there is a small percentage of people that are "backwards" and are "night people" I am one of these. All I can say is i bought one six weeks ago, I have slept every night since, where I NEVER slept before until daybreak, and I have cut my Ambian usage in half during this time. It really works!!!!!

Yes, exactly! The only time in my life I ever slept good was when I was in the navy and worked the night watch. In boot camp when i should have been exhausted but we had camp in daylight hours and I almost was overcome with lack of sleep. The Golite really works! I in no way am connected with them just really happy with mine. I am 50 now and am finally sleeping somewhat regualr hours. Between this and Cpap, I am coming back to life more every day.
I was told by the psychiatrist who runs the sleep clinic that light boxes don't work.
I called Apolo who said that the Golite I is the best way to set your internal clock. The blue light is supposed to be easier on the eyes. However, there is a warning which says see your doctor first. Apolo said one should check with an eye doctor first because of the possiblity to causing cataracts.
They said that Sam's Club carries the Golight and it comes with a rechargeable battery pack. If purchased from Apollo, the battery pack costs extra.
