Card Reader and Encore software question

Post by taberge » Sun Dec 14, 2008 8:31 pm

The nurse at the doctor's office freaked out a little when I told her I was going to use a card reader and the software. She said that I should not do that because reading the card erases it and the doctor needs that info for the insurance report. This sound to me like this nurse does not understand the software and that probably the office setup reads, prints, and reformats automatically to make sure it is fool-proof for the non-computer savvy people. Can anyone confirm that this software does or does not erase upon reading the card? Because if it does, there is no sense in wasting my money. And!, it looks like the DME that was so graciously going to get me my free reader software combo has me out of sight out of mind, so it looks like an order will be made soon.

what machine do you have - you have a tank humidifier with a m series machine - also what software were you going to use - I don't mean encore - I mean view, Pro, what version of Pro if Pro ?

Depending on which software you are using Encore Pro or Encore viewer, it can be set up to do either. Different versions have different methods of setting options, depending on the software. Jim

I use Encore Pro - it will erase if not set up correctly. Many here have had data on their cards for over 1yr.

My guess is many DME's erase the card only cuz that IS the default. All docs & DME's ever look at is compliance data which can be read right off the machine w/o a card, so no biggie. Meaning you will NOT loose that even if card is erased by accident.

The link in your profile for equipment is only for the card reader not for the software. A Pro Tank cpap has no enhanced data however a Pro2 tank does. A Pro m series has data if that is what you have.

I understand viewer does not erase the card, however, be aware there is a utility people here use that will format the card and hence erase it.

Like I have said many times Iconny is useless, a text of what you use is useful (Software) is software, people aren't going to follow a Iconny link to the source, too much wasted time when it can be done correctly in the first place. I don't use viewer but I am sure it can be set correctly to not erase. Jim

Encore Viewer does not have the capability of erasing the card. As Jim stated, the Pro versions can be set to default to either erase or leave the data on the card.

Some people DO erase their cards (even if they're using Viewer) with a utility program from http://www.mycpap.org

Agreed, I don't click on icons to find out what you have. If you don't want to tell me fine, I'll just move on to the next post. They are wrong so many times anyway. Others can try to guess, I won't and don't.
ps. that is not a signature line.

By now, I'm familiar with the CPAP.COM inventory numbers that all I have to do is pass my mouse pointer over the image to see what it is. If I don't remember, I open it in another window to verify.

Yes, Den, you are redundant to excess.

Now, me, on the other hand, never list my equipment in either my profile nor in my signature. However if I want help or advice I put in the middle of the post what I use exactly.

I am aware a signature is wording such as "some day science will catch up to me" where the equipment is entirely separate from the signature and can be listed either with words or with icons.

I use "Google Crome", for a browzer, I have to right click and bring up properties. Half the time the poster doesn't know what machine he is using, (the reason for the picture), I can't understand that at all, I was almost dead when I got mine, I could still read the top of the machine and the papers in the bag, Now when it came to the O2 compressor, that took longer. I didn't feel like moving it. It searted beeping I had to call Lincare on a sunday, turns out I had pinched off the o2 line, and it didn't like that. Jim

The OP does have a mismatch of machine and humidifier - you can see I mentioned that in my first post on the thread.

Oh well, c'est cpaptalk.com board.

I just think it's to the benefit of the new users to be able to "SEE" the different machines. Most of them don't hardly know a "ResMed" from "REMstar" or a "Plus" from a "Pro" or an "Escape" from an "Elite"......then, the new users get the newer versions of the machines and are not aware that there was a "Pro 2" before there was an "M Series Pro"......and then there's all the variations of the Autos/APAPs.

Jim how do you like Google Chrome?

I haven't heard anything good about it yet. So I decided to avoid it until the bugs are worked out.
