Re: Rest in Peace
Cristen & Ali and all of John "Snore-Dog's" family, friends, and friends here.
SD was an unselfish help to so many of us, me included.
I don't think I ever had a lengthy dialog with SD, but I learned so much from what he wrote to others.
I hope that kind words from us within this forum can be a warm source of strength for John's family.

It brought such a smile and tear in my eye to see Snoredog's youngest daughter post with that username. And I am so glad John's legacy lives on in his daughters.
I always thought I would have made it out there to have some Coronas and laughter with John. Yup... miss him already and am so glad to have known him!

Re: Rest in Peace
This board won't be the same for me. I'll miss the jokes. I'll even miss the posts with which I might have disagreed with a detail or two--his spirit of helpfulness was so clear.
The patent on that tough-but-thought-out love will always be his and his alone, but I hope one day to be able to claim that I may have helped a quarter of the people he has helped to think about their therapy over the years.
Snoredog once called me a "troublemaker" for one of my attempts at humor. It warmed my heart. I considered it a great compliment from him, since he included a "LOL" with it.
I once said in a post that Snoredog was "one of my favorite people on the planet." Maybe that's a strange thing for me to say about someone I've never met face-to-face.
But I meant it.
And I stand by it.
Snoredog will be sorely, sorely missed.

Re: Rest in Peace
Cristen & Ali,
Thank you for letting us know. The CPAPtalk family is in mourning. I'm stunned. I'm saddened.
We've relied on your father's strength for many years and now those he taught will have to try to take his place. Your dad was a controversial figure on these boards. He said what he thought and damn anyone who didn't like it. But woe unto the CPAPtalker who assumed it was all bluster. Beneath his gruffness, there was a man who knew his stuff and who had a heart to help others learn, adjust and succeed with CPAP. If a newbie posted software results or wondered about the merits of various APAP algorithms at 3 am, the smart money had Snoredog's reply to be first, correct and comprehensive. That's what we're about on this board and your father embodied it. You could disagree with him, but you had to respect him. I sure did.
We have lost a leading figure, but you have lost a father. I do not know that pain. I can only offer you my deepest sympathies and share with you this simple and powerful truth: effective CPAP treatment means life itself and the number of people your father helped, who are walking around right now because of him, numbers many hundreds if not thousands. That is a staggering achievement.
I would very much like to send flowers or a donation as you prefer on behalf of CPAPtalk. If you are open to this, I can be reached at johnny@cpap.com.

Cristen and Ali--
I am so sorry for your loss. Your dad will be missed here. May you find comfort in knowing that he had a place here that he enjoyed being, and alot of people found help from him...
Take comfort in the memories of your dad, and know that he was very proud of both of you. I know he also loved his Gizmo, and he always took the time to comment on pictures that I posted of my little shih tzu, Roxy. From one doglover to another, that meant alot to me.
Thank you for taking the time to think of us here and for letting us know of his loss.
Rest in Peace, Snoredog, and thank you.
Hugs-
Cindy

Re: Rest in Peace
This news is so saddening and shocking.
You dear girls, your father was so very helpful to many people. He was immensely intelligent and was willing to share what he knew--all the time.
And there was never a saltier personality on this board---his presence will be sorely missed.
Cristen, thanks for replying and letting us know that you are comforted. And thank you, both, for letting us know.

Re: Rest in Peace
My condolences to Snoredog's daughters and family.
I too like soooooooo many here have been helped by Snoredog and just like any family there is a variety of thoughts and ideas, but one thing we could count on was Snoredog's fine wit!
I took a gander back at my posts that he commented on and I have to say that he certainly had a sense of humour and he was a knowlegeable man. Memorably was the posts around the CPAP Cruise idea that we were trying to "float" and then there was a topic that I started about using Encore Viewer on a Linux operating system as opposed to Windows, and again he had great advice.
I know you are proud of your dad as you should be, remember that his memory will live on with us here too and know that he has made a difference for many.

Re: Rest in Peace
Thank you both Christen and Ali for letting us know of your father's passing, it is so greatly appreciated by all of us here at cpaptalk. As so many others have stated, he was such a great leader and helped hundreds. Myself included. I once sent him a PM message with a question on my therapy. He ignored it, and didn't answer at first. His reason was, that he didn't like PMs, that everyone else would not benefit from the answer. I totally respected that and understood, although, he did answer my question. I have read his posts so many times, over and over to better understand my therapy and how to deal with it. His answers were always clear and to the point and correct. I am just stunned at this sad news.
Snoredog will be sadly missed by all of us here on this board.

Cristen & Ali,
The best tribute I could pay to your father is to ask that you read this thread from last August. A sleep apnea patient had been struggling for years with his treatment and posted about it. I don't expect you to necessarily understand the details but your father gave this guy much better, specific advice on how to solve his problems than he had ever gotten from his doctor or the medical equipment supplier / therapists. I found the exchange to be notable at the time and it came right to my mind after reading about the news of your father's passing. This is but one simple example. He willingly helped out a lot of people on the forum, myself included. I remain impressed at the depth of his technical understanding about how CPAP and the human body work.
Here's the thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33730
May I offer my deepest and most hearfelt condolences.

My sincere condolences, Cristen and Ali. It is so incredibly difficult, losing your father (I've had that experience myself), and I know nothing we can say will make it any better or any easier to deal with. Your father helped many people in his time here, and I know you must be very proud of him. I'm positive he was proud of you.

Re: Rest in Peace
Christin, Ali, & Margaret,
I am shocked and totally heartbroken to hear about your Father!
Snoredog was so awesome, he was the MAN of this forum!!! He helped us out so much.
If it wasn't for him, I would had quit cpap therapy. I was diagnosed 14 months ago with sleep apnea,I was given a mask and a cpap machine and was sent home, on my own with no Sleep Doctor, Snoredog jumped right in and helped me out evertime I made a post!
I found this forum through cpap.com , WOW, I am so Blessed to have found this forum and your Father John/Snoredog and all of the other knowledgable forum members like RestedGal, Den and the MANY others, Thank You so much for everything and all the help you have given to me and all the (forum members and guests).
You Father was a "GREAT and knowledgeable MAN" and he will be missed deeply by all of us, I used to think he was a Doctor!
He used to have a picture of himself with his cute dog at the beach as his avatar here on the forum so I remember what he looked like.
I was looking at your Father's Profile and he joined this forum on March 19, 2006 and he had posted a grand total of (6,415 posts), his last being December 03, 2008, what an amazing man, he loved you girls to pieces, he talked about you often and he was extremely proud of you to.
May "God" Bless you Girls, and his Mother Margaret, family members, relatives and friends during this difficult and sad time.
Snoredog, Rest In Peace Friend, you will be missed more than you could have ever imagined and "Thank You"
Hugs,

Re: Rest in Peace
This is a stunning development !!!.
Ole Snoredog was one crusty ole sole but once you got past his crustiness he was a very interesting person and part of the furniture here.
If indeed this has happened I am really saddened. The strange thing to me was that only 2 weeks ago I commented to another member how I was worried about
Snoredog & hoped he was ok as he appeared to be going through an unusual hyperactive phase that was to me a portend of something happening to him. If so
then this was far more dramatic than I had anticipated.
Snoredog had some incredible insights and as we all know had his flaws when dealing with others at times, but I grew to respect him despite us having a few run ins over the years.
Snoredog where ever you are you will be missed and to his family please accept my condolences and realise the shock to us here at the suddenness with which this has happened.
