High VS versus Max Pressure

Post by Peaktagger » Wed Dec 10, 2008 3:49 pm

Hi All,

I've just completed my first night on my REMstar Auto M Series w/A-Flex. All in all, it was a pretty good night, feeling energized today! I would like to get some feedback regarding my numbers from last night any any suggestions y'all may have to improve my settings. My Encore Viewer report can be found here:

http://michaeltolchard.com/REMstar_20081210.pdf

The night was broken up into 2 four hour segments.

My problems have always been Hypopneas, and very few Apnias.

1. There is a lot of VS. My 90% pressure was 12. Is the excessive VS causing the pressure to go that high, or does VS have no bearing on pressure?

2. Should I set the max pressure higher, say to 14?

Thanks all you experts out there!

Michael

Yes your VS was high, but .......... are you rubbing the hose on something like a headboard? Any vibrations in the hose can show up in the report as "snores".

For example, there is a short period for this night of mine where I had a leg cramp and was searching for something on the shelves next to my bed and was rubbing the hose all over the shelves as I was still "hosed".

Overall for starting out you aren't doing bad, as Jules says noise can be picked up in the hose. Rainout in the hose can make noise. Some of us will make snoring noises even when our apnea is controlled. You might try raising the low and high 1 cm, The graphs will tell you if it helps. Your low is lower than I could stand. Jim

Thanks for your feedback Jim and Jules, I did have some rainout. Initially ran the humidifier at 2, bumped it up to 3 as I felt like I was in a California drought, but then the rains came, and I bumped it back down to 2. I think between the headboard rubbing and rainout, I'd guess rainout would me the more likely of the two. There is no headboard on my bed, so nothing hard for it to washboard over. On the other hand did wake up quite a bit getting used to this ffm thing stuck to my face lol, so there was quite a bit of movement on my part ...

Inhalation whilst on APAP is great, no more suffocating sensation, can lay on my back yeah!, but exhale can still generate some slight snoring. Does the machine detect VS on inhale and exhale, or inhale only? Any recommendations on reducing snoring on exhalation?

Thanks for you input.

Michael
