I told the software to "Diable BBCode" which is why code can be viewed in the following text.

[quote="DoriC"]I obviously did something wrong with the "quote" option. Can someone explain how that works so that it's shaded. Thanks.[/quote]

You must have erased that last [/quote] by mistake.
Those fromatting command always have to come in pairs. The first means [start whatever it is] and the second means [end whaever it is]. But the "start" is dropped, and "end" is replaced with a "/".

[quote] For quotes [/quote]
[b] Bold [/b]
[i] Italics [/i]
[u] Underline [/u]

I know what you mean by "over-thinking". That's my middle name, but these great folks here have patience beyond measure and they will make sure we get the answers we need no matter what. Who knows, I may be asking the same question again tomorrow even though tonight I'm sure I understand it. We can do this! Dori
Dori,

Somehow you cut off the "end quote" marks. Do a "quote" on the this one and you'll see what is needed. (I added it back in to yours so you could see them.
