3500 card reader

Post by Guest » Wed Jul 27, 2005 4:00 pm

OK folks, what am I missing? I bought the dt-3500 card reader from the web. I installed the card reader driver and all looked good...my new Dell pc recognized the card reader. I then installed Encore Pro, but it could not read my card. When I went to preferences, it wouldn't even let me specify the usb as the connection point.

Are there other settings I need to change?

Thanks so much for your help.

Yes, I would like to support the USA also.......but it is becoming exceedingly difficult. Our clothes are made in Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia. We import silver from Mexico, gold from Italy, have marble from Italy in our bathrooms, faucets made by large German manufacturers and CPAP machines owned by Australia. We drive American made cars whose parts are all manufactured outside of the US and supply them with foreign oil and gas. About the only American made thing left are Krispy Kreme donuts and they ended up getting us on CPAP machines......so it must be the fault of the US!
Can I kindly suggest that you take your anonymous soapbox to another place.

Thanks

smart card reader

When you plug in the smart card reader, the Device Manager should recognize it and the driver identified. This being the case, then uninstall Encore, restart your computer, then reinstall Encore. This should do it.

"A wizard guides the installation of both Encore Pro and the drivers. Follow the installation instructions carefully and take note of the warning not to connect the SmartCard reader/writer until the installation is complete."

The above quote is from Derek's instructions for installing the Encore Pro software and the cardreader which are located in the "CPAP Reviews" on this forum page.

Good luck.

[quote="fstanmyre"]Dumped the driver that came with the Encore package and installed the win2000 driver from the Infineer website. It's the same driver namely Mako v1.0.1.4, 3/12/2003, not digitally signed. It works just fine...

Encore Pro

I have the reader driver that came with the original $200 package running on one computer and the downloaded driver from Mako running on another computer. The two card readers are interchangeable on both machines. Both drivers are identified as Mako 3/12/2003 v1.0.1.4.

I've noticed that the readers are a little quirky about which usb port they are plugged into. Apparently the driver latches on to one particular port and if you plug the reader into another port, it doesn't work. However you do say that the card reader and driver all look ok in your device manager, so it seems nothing wrong with the reader installation, this case for some reason the Encore Pro software isn't seeing the reader.

Only thing I can think of is to start all over again from scratch. You can download the driver, with the installation wizard, from the Mako site:

http://www.mako-tech.com/support/

As I recall when I did the first install, you had to install either the reader first or the Encore Pro first, I can't remember which, but I think it must be the reader. In any case if you get the wrong sequence, you get an instruction to that effect.

To start all over again, uninstall the reader in your Device Manager, then uninstall Encore Pro. Delete the Mako and Encore folders in your programs directory, run a registry cleaner, restart your computer and reinstall everything. Observe all the installation protocols which most of us ignore, such as shutting down all running programs before doing the install. Also suggest when you connect the reader, connect it to the motherboard usb port on the back of the computer. If this still doesn't work, send me a pm with your email address. Also, do you have a high speed connection?

I'll try again

Fred-

Thanks for your patience. I'll try again later this evening. Just to reiterate, I'm going to uninstall everything (drivers, applications, registry entries, etc.), reboot, then install card reader driver first, encore pro last.

I'll let you know how it goes.

The software driver must be installed before connecting reader according to my encore install instructions.

See my post dated 7/30 in the following thread for some relevent info if the USB checkbox isn't available:

FYI, I installed the drivers from the Encore Pro CD AFTER I installed Encore Pro.

Hope this helps!
