Mistletoe? Top 5 culprits that can cause HOLIDAY HALITOSIS

Post by roster » Wed Dec 03, 2008 12:04 pm

Your CPAP has to put up with your breath all night. Be kind to it over the holidays.
5. Macaroni and cheese - Mac 'n Cheese is bubbly and delicious. But all that dairy feeds hungry bacteria in your mouth and causes their numbers to EXPLODE! Other foods heavy in dairy (Cheesecake, Mashed Potatoes, Cream based soups) will all have a similar effect.

4. Cranberry Sauce - Sugar feeds all types of bacteria. Obviously, that includes bad breath bugs. They love most sugary foods (Candied Yams, Pumpkin Pie, even that terrible Fruitcake) .

3. Anything with onions and garlic - While this may be obvious, remember that you won't always see these things on the plate. Mom's meatloaf, the stuffing in the turkey, and most casseroles all have these Halitosis - inducing ingredients.

2. Egg Nog - In one cup of this tasty festive beverage hides the 3 worst breath offenders on record: Sugar to feed bacteria, dairy proteins that create a great place for bacteria to multiply, and alcohol to make the mouth dry.

1. Coffee - This one item is responsible for most of the not so fresh breath you will encounter this month, simply because of how much of it we consume over the holidays. Not only is coffee terrible for breath, it also stains teeth. And, it's usually accompanied by sweets, cream, and sugar. That's an ideal combination for serious Holiday Halitosis. Just say no to a second cup.
