cleaning ultra mirage FF?
cleaning ultra mirage FF?
The silicone piece that helps fit the mask around your mouth on the ultra mirage FF... sorry, I forget what it's called! Anyway, it's getting REALLY disgusting with all that contact with my mouth and face oils. Any suggestions on how to clean it? A mild detergent solution in lukewarm water isn't doing it to clean off the crud.

Some folks around here use Dawn dishwashing liquid and hot water, and this works great for initially cleaning a very oily seal, but I prefer to use Liquid Neutrogena face cleanser as it leaves the silicone squeaky clean and sealing great. Both cut oil very well, but the Neutrogena seems to me to leave less residue.

Try a vinegar and water solution and let it soak for a bit and rub the seal with your fingers - how much vinegar to water? - I would say something like 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water ought to be about the right dilution, but if not add a smidge more vinegar, then rinse well after soaking.

Re: cleaning ultra mirage FF?
I have extremely oily complexion and use shampoo daily for my cushion.
If you use the same cushion a long time, you know how it looses that squeaky sticky feel? Just for the heck of it, I use some old fashion lye soap on one and was amazed at how well it came back. Of course I rinsed very well to make sure I wasn't inhaling lye (cough, hack, wheeze). I am only reporting what I did and you may not want to try this at home.
Of course I know what the manufacturers say and all the admonitions about this stuff and how dangerous, etc. But I experiment and have tried much more dangerous chemicals without the same effect. My next one is to put an old mask in the dishwasher to see what happens.
