Long term effects on lungs

Post by Flower51 » Mon Jul 11, 2005 1:50 pm

Anyone out there (resp therapists perhaps????) know what the long term effects on the lungs and respiratory system are of exhaling against a high pressure setting throughout the night? Does it strengthen the lungs or wear them out???? Considering the options of cflex or not....Thanks!!!!!!!! Terry

This question has been on the minds of many patients and physicians since positive airway pressure was first administered with a long time horizon. It is certainly good news that cpap patients completing 20 years of compliance are doing great. It is a bit pointless to do a study when there are virtually no reports of any long term pulmonary negatives.
