New S8 AutoSet II CPAP Machine & noise issue?
Hello again,
A few months ago, I purchase a Mirage Swift LT Nasal Pillow CPAP with a hose buddy. For me, it was the perfect combination in regards to noise reduction and comfort. It also resolve the leakage issue that I had before. The above was use with my Remstar Auto M Series CPAP.
Last month, I did purchase a S8 AutoSet II CPAP. To my surprise, the first couple of weeks were very difficult. I would wake up in the night, several times, for reason of noise issue. This noise does not come from the CPAP machine, but from the air coming out of my mask. After a few weeks of trying to endure this noise, I switch back to my Remstar Auto M Serices. It did resolve this noise issue. It was either find a solution or my wife would sleep in the 2nd bedroom.
Yes, I've gone back to my supplier. Latter did turn off the exhaling/inhaling manager and ramp, but it did not resolve the above nois issue with S8 AutoSet II CPAP. Have you encountered this noise issue with the S8 AutoSet II CPAP? If yes, or no, what do you suggest?
The S8 AutoSet II CPAP itself is extremely quiet. In addition, I had a second issue with the S8 AutoSet II CPAP. I needed to make an effort to pull the air from the CPAP, for which I did not have a problem with the Remstar Auto M Series CPAP.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Sounds like your ramp settings and comfort settings aren't set up comparably on the two machines.

The machine creates a pressure at its end, and the air flows what it flows to maintain that pressure. That's controlled primarily by the mask. And as the air travels down the hose, there shouldn't be any difference in how the air is flowing when it reaches the mask. How different are the settings between the two machines?
There are a few explanation and it happened to me with my first mask, a nasal mask, on a S8 Compact with humidifier. I found that how much I filled the water reservoir affected the noise seeming to come from the mask on breathing. Had a couple of theories about this. One is that at the right pressure and right flow the air chamber above the water in the humidifier becomes a little noise maker. Then noise travels up the hose. The other theory is the more air volume in the system becomes a nice little cushion moderating the pressure extremes on breathing.
I under filled the reservoir about 40% blow the water line and that seemed to improve the noise. This may be something that changes with mask and pressure so YMMV.
One final thought. You remstar could have been noisier at the machine helping to cover up the mask noises. If you now have a quieter machine, the noise of the mask especially with the variation in breathing, etc. will be more obvious.

The EPR, for example, makes it easier to breathe.
And john_dozer makes a very good point about machine noise changing our perceptions of mask noise.

Did you set the mask setting on the machine for your mask? That might cause some of the trouble....

My understanding is that mask settings do not change therapy pressure. Those settings are there only to do some of the math for you in determining leak.

Your Mask Selection should (obviously) be set at Swift. Sometimes when we changes masks we forgot to change the Mask Selection.
I can't remember now but wasn't there a comparison done w/Resmeds, Respironics and Puritan Bennetts and the Resmeds either .... can't remember and have enough egg on my face ... you needed a little lower or higher pressure setting for similar results or some such?

Thanks a million for all of you replies. It gives me hope in finding a solution. I will investigate with your suggestions and visit this forum later to update my post.
Just to add more details, as of now, I am not using the humidifier. Latter is store away. And yes, I've thought about the posibility that the Remstar Auto M could had been louder than the masker noise.
Robert.
