How many leaks a night

Post by tvmangum » Wed Nov 19, 2008 11:06 am

How many leaks a night are acceptable to you?

Some nights I have maybe one leak and other nights I may have three or more. Some are easy to stop just by moving my head, arm or pillow and some can only be corrected by taking off my mask, wiping it down and then putting it back on my face. Some nights I am so tired and frustrated from dealing with leaks that I just throw the mask in the drawer and go back to sleep without using my CPAP. I know that is not the best thing to do but at 2:00 in the morning when I have spent 5+ minutes fighting with the crazy thing I don't know what else to do. If there was a pattern to the leaks I could work to eliminate or reduce the number but their doesn't seem to be any kind of pattern. I don't think that I have had a night where I did not have a leak.

Any suggestions?

I see you have the Quattro mask...

Leaks have no pattern... the air will escape where it can.

Washing your face each night before putting on the mask helps achieve a better seal as does washing the face & forehead cushions.

Try adjusting the mask perhaps higher or lower on your face to see if that makes a difference.

Remove the face cushion & green frame and hold it against your face to see how it fits. Is it a reasonable match for the contours of your face?

Try the sizing chart at CPAP.COM ...do the recommended masks and sizes match what you have? If not then perhaps a different sized Quattro or a completely different mask may be best for you.

There are essentially three ways to adjust the Quattro...

-Fitting higher or lower on your face
-Adjusting the forehead dial
-Adjusting the lower straps

I did not mention the upper straps because once those are set to circle around your head and just hold themselves in place you are done with them. The forehead dial does the rest of the adjustments on the upper side.
