My dad was asked to schedule a sleep study!

Post by 2girlsmom » Tue Nov 18, 2008 3:48 pm

I have been on both my parents to go in for sleep studies and my dad found himself in a cardiologists office today (he hada pulse of 150 and a "weird" ekg -- his primary doc referred him to the cardio). He stayed a night in a hospital about a year ago with the same thing going on, the fast pulse and high bp. Today when he went the doctor apparently asked him a ton of things and then suggested (among other things) that he have a sleep study done. I don't want him to have apnea but ever since my dx I have tried to convince him to go in. He is very sleepy, my mom says he gets up 4-5 times a night to go pee despite a good PSA level and such... he will lay on the couch and be out in seconds. I don't want him to have it but I am glad he is on the way to finding out. I'll definitely need to encourage him to wear the thing, I can see him being really resistent.

In addition, you should have your dad check with a urologist. I had that trouble about 6 years ago. (just before my apneas were found).
Getting up that many times sure does effect your sleep. I found that I had BPH and had my prostate "fixed". All I have to do now is check my PSA once a year, and it is just fine, and still hanging in there.

I'll ask my mom to talk to him about it. He would take it better from her. LOL

He said they want him to do the study because he hasheart issues and is overweight. I'm glad the doc thought to refer him.
