question about setting pressure on Elite II via smart card

Post by 2girlsmom » Fri Nov 14, 2008 1:34 pm

Will inserting the smartcard from the dme mess up anything? I know how to change the pressure so I did so already but of course the dr wants the dme to do it... lol the dme said it would download too, so i want to know for sure. I am just nervous about messing something up.

Since you have no idea of just how the DME has their software set up (whether to erase data or not) the easiest thing to do is to buy an extra data card. Download your current data to both cards before taking one of them to the DME to do their pressure setting thing.

It is recommended that you erase the previous data when making a pressure change so that the accumulated data at the old settings can't influence the averages w/the data of the new settings so most likely they have their software set to erase the previous data.

OK, thanks. I'll be sure to put my card in first in case anything were to get erased, I think it's silly the insurance has to pay for DME to do this when I already changed it myself. oh well, at least I don't have copays.

Ah, but you just don't UNDERSTAND, 2girlsmom!!! You gotta be an educated, trained (read ignorant) DME supplier's RT w/handy Set Up Guide In Hand to change YOUR xPAP pressure settings. You just aren't QUALIFIED to do so. [Excuse me whilst I pull my tongue outta my cheek. Its stuck]

I think my doctor is a bit put off by me too with me changing my pressure and printing ResScan reports for her and all. I was shocked to see that the barometer for CPAP success according to the resident that is with my doctor is "feeling better". Not "if your data looks good on the machine at home" but the generic "feeling better". Here I thought they had a clue when they wanted me to have a fully data capable CPAP.
