To much pressure?

Post by 3winks » Wed Nov 12, 2008 8:47 am

Can someone tell me if too much pressure can make your AHI go up? It seems that when I use the mask that doesnt leak, my AHI goes up.

It could be that if you are prone to central apnea's then those are occuring at the higher pressures.
Alternately, if you're getting large leaks then your machine won't be able to detect breathing events properly, so it will seem like you have a low AHI.
But your description is a bit vague, so some charts or more data would help pinpoint the issue a bit better.

You could find more useful data if you used Encore Pro, instead of the LCD. Too much pressure can raise your AHI, but leaks can make the data flawed. Jim

Yes too much pressure can cause your AHI to rise. Best way to find that is to start at a lower pressure and work your way up making note of the AHI as you go. If you put it in a line graph it should resemble the foothills climbing towards a bell curve. The goal is not to go over the hill but to stay at the lowest point in front of the bell curve. IF you go over that bell curve you might find another low point but it will never be stable.

Very difficult if not impossible to do that with a Remstar LCD data, it is so inaccurate and just when you think you have a number you can use it the POS looses a night or two of data. The Encore software is the only way to track that. This is not a problem on the Resmed machines that give LCD data or other machines.

You just say Resmed's treatment fails at 10 CM.
