The problem with something like the clapper was discussed in the other thread I have at the beginning. Basically, if you turn the ac power off to the M-series, it loses all the data that is expected to be stored in the card for the night. Show stopper. Even if it worked, I was trying not to wake up my spouse. Perhaps some spouses can be conditioned to go to sleep on clapping

I don't allow clapping in my bedroom, it's a standing ovation or nothing. Usually it's nothing! Jim

Well I am most certainly not laughing at you or your ingenuity with your machine modifications... in fact I applaud both.

I laugh about the notion of a remote control because it seems *everything* comes with remote controls these days and households are becoming or are remote control challenged.

Seriously, there are some amendments to these machines that I would like to see made available to the regular consumer without having a prescription or for the consumer to resort to self-brewed machine modifications:

1) Wireless remote control for controlling not only on/off but other machine functions that one might adjust during the night such as humidity. For me, it is not simply a matter of reaching over to adjust... I need to get out of bed.
2) Build-in oximeter capability. Oxygen levels are such an important part of this that for the life of me I don't know why this has not been done yet... oh wait... I do know... cost. Oh wait... the DMEs would love that. Hmmm.
3) Ability to download data to regular USB flash drives -and- the ability to plug the machine into a computer and have it recognized as just another device.
4) Tied in with the download item above: Better software. I am referring specifically to Resscan here. Resscan is certainly better than nothing and a lot of work went into creating it... but there are some rough edges to be smoothed out and more features that could be added. For example... when an apnea event does display on the report it would be *very* helpful if one could simply hover their mouse pointer over the event and the machine pressure and leak rate during that event would be displayed in addition to the length of the event.

In any case... I am most certainly with you on the manufacturers improving these machines.

Bravo but I'll bet you have Encore

I just have three problems doing it.

1. Voiding warranty
2. Adding a length of wiring adds capacitance to the circuit, modern Solid State circuits are sometimes picky about that especally transmitters.
3. And a thing called switch bounce, getting more than one signal from a switch press. Back in the old days before Solid State Circuits, modifying things were cut and dried, you could pretty much redo things without fear.

It looks like you know your way around a soldering iron, reminds me of changing my 10 meter ham rig into 11 meters. Nothing like the smell of Rosin Core Solder, in the Morning. (A take off of, "Nothing like the smell of Napalm in the Morning") Jim

GASP!!!!! Certainly us mere mortals who use these CPAP machines can't be trusted to do our own oximetry readings....why, we just might end up understanding more about our health and our sleep apnea than the DME's!!!!!

Hi rested gal, a recent post by your bring this thread to this decade, made me re read that. I want to report, yes my unit did fail totally many months ago; I removed the wire, took it back to DME. They said, yes we have since this type of failure once in a while, but not that common. Gave me a new unit right there. First thing I did when I came back home, was to put the remote lab rat back in there on the new machine.

Just in case somebody wonder this might make the machine fail: the remote switch is simply doing exactly the same momentary push closing of two electrical points the original one does, and it is in parallel. So from the electrical/electronic point of view it is almost impossible to even verify that a modification has been made
