I WILL BE GETTING A CPAP NEXT WEEK. WHAT DO I NEED TO ASK MY PROVIDER WHEN THEY COME TO MY HOUSE TO SETUP THE UNIT?

THANKS SUNSETTER

Why are they coming to your house? Ask them:
Is this a trial cpap?
Is it already used, and how many hours?
When do I get my permanent one?
Which one do I get to keep, and based upon what criteria?
Ask about the coverage of your insurance
Is it a "rent to own"; and how long is the rental period?
What will be the total cost to me before its mine?
Is it cheaper for me to buy one on my own?
What settings are you making on the machine and why?
How will I know how my therapy is going?
When will I talk to the doctor about my improvement?
What mask are you giving me, and based upon what criteria?
Will you let me try more than one mask at YOUR location before I take one home?
Will I be able to have a back-up mask ?
How long do I keep a mask before I'm issued another one?
What do you do if my machine needs some unexpected repairs?

....there are many more.....

Jay

Good starting list, Jay. Be aware, however, that whoever sets up your machine with you will tell you they have no idea about the answers to the above questions...which may or may not be true. In any case, from my own experience, I would strongly recommend that you contact the DME business/billing dept before they ever arrive at your house, and tenaciously request a slow and carefully explained itemization to address each of these questions highlighted. Write it all down so you can work the numbers later yourself. It all seemed pretty confusing to me with a cloudy brain, so it took me awhile to decide to return the rent-to-own machine and just buy one outright from cpap.com.

Welcome to the message board, Sunsetter.

Instead of waiting to see what they bring you, I'd do what plr66 suggested...

I've emphasized in red the important part about BEFORE they bring the machine to you. As plr66 mentioned, the person who brings the machine may not know the answers to those questions. Use your waiting time to phone the DME ahead of time with those questions.

Good luck!

P.S. It's easier for people to read messages if they are not written in all capital letters. You might want to turn off the caps lock on your keyboard, as Snoredog suggested.
