ResMed Smartcard erasable?
ResMed Smartcard erasable?
I've used my smart card a couple of times and am wondering about its capacity. I read somewhere it will only hold 3-to-5 days of detail data. Does the S8 overwrite whats on the card each time it's used, or will I be seeing a "card full" message soon?
Re: ResMed Smartcard erasable?
The way the Resmed uses its card is that it dumps the machine data to the card. When you plug the datacard in it will sometimes put a message on the LCD say that it is dumping data to the card.StevenJ wrote:I've used my smart card a couple of times and am wondering about its capacity. I don't believe you can fill the card up. When I look at the cards I use on my S8 (except it has a Reslink module & uses the SM type datacard) I can see the files on the card when I plug it into the removable media slot for SM cards.
If I wipe them off, when I put the card back in the machine, it reloads the card with the data from the machine.

Re: ResMed Smartcard erasable?
I do understand that the card can hold 180 sessions of summary data and 5 sessions of detailed data... I haven't reached the first limit yet (180 sessions), therefore I don't know if the card eventually will be full at that limit or the system always is going to overwrite the last 180 + 5 sessions. Either way... apparently the software has an option to clean the card.StevenJ wrote:I've used my smart card a couple of times and am wondering about its capacity. Re: ResMed Smartcard erasable?
Yes. The ResScan card always loads the most recent 180 days of summary data and 5 days of detailed data from the S8, overrwriting whatever data was previously stored there.StevenJ wrote:Does the S8 overwrite whats on the card each time it's used
The 180 days is for days that the S8 was actually switched on. If you have not used the machine (say its used only as a spare, or while travelling) it still takes the 180 most recent days actually held in the S8, whether or not they are consecutive. Same for the detailed data.
So, there is no need to explicitly erase the card to avoid filling it up.
Cheers,
Bill

Re: ResMed Smartcard erasable?
Steve,
I have a different ResMed machine than you do but I can give you my experience.
First, how long it takes to fill the card depends on how much memory is in the card. Mine is 32MB.
One night, my LED said Data Card Is Full and that night's data was not recorded on the card. (it was on the LED) As I recall, it had about 60-90 nights in it.
I went on this forum and asked how to delete the data using the software but no one could give me an answer. I finally went to the Clinicians Menu and found under options, Delete Data. I did this and the card was empty again.
As I said in the first sentence, your machine is different from mine but maybe some of this info will help you or others.

What device do you have attached to your Vpap III to record data ? I've only ever used a null modem cable on a VPAP III except when I attach a Reslink. That uses a 32MB SM card.

Re: ResMed Smartcard erasable?
When you utilize Erase Data in the Clinicians Menu, you erase all data off the device except the actual total hours used. Resmeds do not store their data on the card but rather in the device itself, it only transfers "a copy" of the data to the card which the card can then transfer to the ResScan software on your 'puter. This is unlike the Respironics data storage wherein you must keep the data card in your device whilst in use. You only need insert your data card into the Resmeds when you want to download the data - at least every 4-5 days to get and retain the detailed data. (Is this clear as mud??)
ResLink on the other hand, works more like the Respironics. You must keep the ResLink data card in the ResLink to get the more detailed data that ResLink collects. You can replace the ResLink module w/the usual data card module, insert the usual Resmed data card and pick up the data that the device "collects". There have been a couple of nights where I've forgotten to put the ResLink data card back in the ResLink so it didn't collect data that night. I just remove the ResLink and its module, replace it w/the regular data card module, inserted the regular data card to copy the data from the device and then downloaded that data to the ResScan software after which I've restored the ResLink connection and put the ResLink card into the ResLink for the following night's use. Re: ResMed Smartcard erasable?
Slinky,
Thanks for that clarification
You reminded me that Reslink actually records extra data on the card that the normal data card doesn't get. I believe this data is the flattening index and of course if attached, the SpO2 data from the integrated SpO2 device.

(My S8 based reslink actually came via Slinky )

Shame on you Slinky. I had to try to understand your post first thing in the morning. After 2 BIG mugs of coffee and reading it 4 times, I finally got it. This stuff is really complicated. Thanks, folks. I have 5-days of detail data on my laptop now and have had no problems with the data card. So far so good.

Re: ResMed Smartcard erasable?
STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC, DSM. Not one exception. I wanted to send a message as loud and clear as I could. Maybe those idiotic BushBaby fans and party members will get the drift!!! It would be nice to be able to go back to voting FOR a candidate rather than a political party. On the other hand, I really didn't have anyone I was voting FOR since JFK and Gerald Ford. Well, I DID vote for Bill Clinton the second term but he had one character flaw that really, really disgusted me. So I'm not really sure if I was voting FOR him or AGAINST his opponent! (And at the moment, I can't even remember WHO his Republican opponent was!!!! )
I had always liked John McCain as a Senator and was VERY DISAPPOINTED in the tone of his campaign the closer we got to election day. His gracious concession sounded more like the John McCain I had so respected. I wonder if Hillary and John McCain and others got the message that we are tired of the dirty politics and derogatory campaign ads? Sure would be nice if future candidates would stick to the issues instead of the usual mud-slinging.
