Is a humidifier necessary??

I use a humidifier but I was thinking of not taking one with my if I travel to cut down what I have to bring(distilled water and humidifier) Is it absolutely necessary? Someone I know has a cpap that she never uses water in so I was wondering if the older ones didn't need humidifiers.

Many CPAP users don't use a humidifier.

Humidifiers are a comfort item for cpap use. Not too long ago cpap machines did not have humidifiers. These days they are almost standard.

Some people do not use them, Some people use them in "passover" mode. That is with water(distilled) in them but no heat so that the air passes over the water and gives room tempurature humidity. Some like varying levels of heat. It all depends on what feels comfortable for each individual and what helps them with their therapy.

If you do okay without any humidity don't take it. Others get a long for a short time, while travelling without it even though they may use it at home so they have less equipment to take along.

If you use humidity and are planning to travel without it, you might want to try that for a time at home before you go away to see how you get along.

If you are going to a place where the humidity might be higher than where you live, you will probably do fine without it.

You will find that with a full face mask, humidifiers are considered necessary, because there is less natural humidification when mouth breathing.

It depends how long you can go without a humdifier under your normal climatic conditions (easy enough to find out while at home), and also the climatic conditions in the areas you will be travelling to, and where you will be staying (Air conditioned, or not etc).

For instance, if you live in a more humid area and are travelling to a less humid area, you may find the lack of humidification distressing, or if you normall sleep withoutair conditioning you may find air conditioned accommodation too "dry".

How old are you?
I know for me, my nostrils swell right up at my pressure and the humidity definitely relieves that. Others say the humidity stuffs them up.

I would say to try it at home to see just how you react. Pack accordingly.
