Remstar Heated Humidifier versus Passover Heated Humidifier

My Remstar Auto came with a passover heated humidifier. I find it awkward to open and close. It also sits between the apap machine and the heater plate and this too is awkward. I have noticed that Remstar also has a different humidifier that is a canister positioned in front of the apap machine. It appears less cumbersome and easier to use.

Are there functional differences between the two?
