Question about Resmed APAPs

Post by 2girlsmom » Fri Oct 31, 2008 8:47 am

I have decided if the sleep doctor will not do an APAP that I am going to purchase one when we get our tax refund, or maybe sooner and throw it on a CC, ugh. I notived the Vantage is around $500 while the Autoset II is around $900. Is the vantage just as good? I have ResScan 3.5, will it work with the Vantage?

Also, my original titrated pressure was 10 and they recently changed me to 14 after a new titration. Would a setting of 9-15 make sense as I have good nights on occasion at 11, 11.4, 12, 12.4 and 14 (those are the only pressures I have data on). Will the machine work alright at those pressures? I thought I read something about it not going over 10cm bc of possibility of centrals, but is this just when it is set wide open 4-20cm?

Thanks for any help you can offer. I can't wait to talk to the doctor, hopefully she will just switch me to an APAP, since it can run as straight CPAP too if I need that.

I can't really give you advice on your situation, but I will tell you that I borrowed a Vantage for a week before buying my Autoset II. I found some DISTINCT differences.

1. The Autoset II has an EPR option in APAP mode. The Vantage only has EPR in CPAP mode.
2. The Autoset II has the new easy-breathe technology (which actually has eliminated my need for EPR).
3. The Autoset II is even more quiet than the Vantage. The only noise I hear is air flowing through the mask.

I found breathing out with the Vantage in APAP mode VERY uncomfortable. The Autoset II is MUCH more comfortable to use. My sleep study titrated pressure is 13 - and the Autoset II routinely sets itself on 13.2.

The Vantage is the older model of Resmed Auto machine... with the AutoSet being the most recent release.

If it was me... I woul set the initial range 8-15, record a weeks worth of data at that setting, review the data and make further adjustments based on that data. Also, use the "Settling" feature as the machine will not record any events while you are settling down to sleep. I found using the "Settling" reduced my numbers significantly.

Excellent advice (imho) from RafterRattler and Paul56.

I used an S8 Vantage for awhile. Haven't used the new AutoSet II yet, but the fact that the Autoset II has EPR available in auto mode would make it definitely be my choice between those two models.

Wow, thanks so much. I am really thankful that you pointed out the EPR is available in auto only on the Autoset II. I use that every night when I'm set at 14, so I'd definitely want it available. It will cost me more, but in the long run it will be worth it.
