Encore pro on a Mac

Post by grybeard77 » Sun Oct 26, 2008 11:31 am

Has anybody figured out how to run Encore Pro , My Encore or J. Skinners Encore Analyzer on a Mac?

I am thinking of changing from MS to a MAc and hate to not be able to track my data. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I use parallels on my MacPro for some other windows stuff. Spaces makes it really great to toggle environments.

I installed Encore Pro and the card driver and it's been working pretty well. I do have to remember to make the USB association to the Mako device in the Parallels menu.

I just posted on Friday a similar question for Ubuntu Linux and Encore Viewer (Pro's) lighter version and apparently Wine is a package that will run Windows applications on Linux distros (distributions like Ubuntu, Red Hat, Fedora etc.).

I had installed it and was trying to tweak it. I was just having difficulting adding it as an application within wine. The program and the USB drivers seemed to install okay.

I thought Leopard and OSx could run Windows programs.

Someone suggested using Virtual Machine and create a dual boot - not sure if that will work on an Apple machine?

It won't work unless you have an iMac/Intel and install either Parallels (not a very good thing) or Bootcamp, which I did (along with XP), and which is terrific. Either that or use an old PC to run XP or an appropriate-to-your-version-of-Encore Win program.

Thanks for response. will check out parallels but haven't heard of 'Spaces". is that a Mac utility? if not where can I get it?

Hadn't thought of 'BootCamp' isn't that similar to parallels? Do you need both for different reasons?
Thanks again in advance.

Virtual Box is just like Parallels only FREE

http://www.virtualbox.org/

Install Virtual Box,
Insert Windows CD when prompted, Windows installed (runs in a Mac Window)
Open up XP, Install EncorePro on the Windows installation,

Any of these alternatives is slow even on a Intel Core 2 Duo machine.

Virtual box is by Sun, they just released a new version the other day.
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Spaces allows you to have virtual monitors so to speak. I have one space assigned to parallels and traditional mac assigned to another space. I can use ctrl right arrow to toggle between them.

I have an intel mac and parallels works pretty good for me. I use VPN and all sorts of stuff with it. I use it on a 30 inch monitor as well. I leave it up for weeks on my desktop without too much incident. I do have a crash now and then that I think is video driver related. I looking forward to parallels version 4 to see if it cures things.

Bootcamp is definitely better than Parallels or Virtual machine, etc. Google it, or look on your Mac sites for info. It's very clean and there are no issues with it as there are with alternatives.

Except you can't do multiple things at the same time.

I have a windows VM where I am VPN'd to work and doing itune/iphone/iphoto syncing at the same time in MacOS.
I am checking work all the time without having to stuck in one or the other.

I am not a gamer which tends to be where most of the problems are.

You can get Encore Pro to work on a non-Intel mac. I have it running with Virtual PC. Works fine if a little slow.

Not that we're aware of - I'm not sure what the previous poster is doing to be able to run the program on his machine, but in any case the thread is out of date and now Sleepyhead can be run directly on a Mac and Encore on an intel-based one via Bootcamp, Parallels or other facilitator software.
