OT: Slinky & the Snoredogs Contract (WAS Japan Banks)
This report just reached us here in Sydney today - wanted to let you folks in the USA know that you are not alone
with your banking troubles - we hope this news makes you folk feel a little better
Tokyo: 23 Oct 2008:
In the last seven days serious problems have emerged in Japan's banking sector leaving many in serious
trouble just when they thought they were recovering from Japan's own finacial crisis of the past 10 years.
It was reported today that the Origami bank has folded. The Sumo bank has also gone belly up.
The Bonsai bank has just announced it will be trimming many branches. Yesterday it was the
Karaoke bank in trouble and up for sale, it is believed it will go for a song. Also shares in the
Kamikaze bank were suspended after they suddenly nose-dived. There are also reports that the
Janome bank is trying to stitch up a mutual deal with Shibori bank.
In late news it has been reported that the Samurai bank is soldiering on after some savage cuts and
that the Ninja bank took a few hits but remains in the black. 500 staff at the Karate bank got the
chop and investigators report there is something fishy at the Sushi bank where staff are feared to
be getting a raw deal.
Oh yes, it was also reported that the Geisha bank is now well and truly ............

Re: Totally OT - Japan Banks in deep trouble
Yes ... and I'm sure Palin was able to observe all of that bank trouble from her back porch
Good thing she won't need a loan anytime soon and has that $150K wardrobe allowance like all of us other Joe and Josephine six-pack plumber types.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Now, I wonder just how it is the Geisha Bank is doing so well. . . .
And the WRC's Rally Japan is coming up a bit over a week from now. I hope the Japanese market doesn't go off the road before then.

That was an exercise in creative writing.
Our bank names make for less interesting reading. Chase Bank races..., Goldman Sachs drops harder than a sack of gold..., WAMU has a whale of a ... (ok, I know that's stretching it),
A.I.G. ... shows absent investment growth - see what I mean! And what can ya do with words like Stanley and Morgan?
Thanks for thinking of us here in the U.S. Seems there's enough banking woes to go around.

Here you go:kteague wrote:And what can ya do with words like Stanley and Morgan?
"Stanley seems to have run out of steam, while Morgan has lost its footing and pulled up lame. . . ."
Sigh. I guess it does help to smile a little about all these woes. . . .

Re: Totally OT - Japan Banks in deep trouble
On way to work just now & while Australia seemed to have escaped the worst of what we see elsewhere, it seems we are now being affected by the nervousness. Last week our govt announced a 3 year guarantee for all bank deposits - Seems that has now triggered a rush of people trying to pull their money out of financial institutes that aren't covered by the guarantee, that in turn has caused 3 such organizations to announce today that they are freezing funds .... .... .... ....
So the cycle has now begun for us too
On the funny side ...
Hmmm Outback bank have lost their way, Cockatoo bank claim they are now safe since they learned not to repeat "mistakes".
Buffalo bank got dragged down when Crocodile bank went under. Sydney Opera House bank shares are having a 'wail' of a time.
(Den) Koala bank investments have reached a fork but a spokesman says they will hang in there rather than go out on a limb. The
spokesman further claimed they have plenty green stuff in reserve. Investigators are looking into the finances of Platypus bank
when it was reported they duck payment when billed. But on the bright side Kangaroo bank just keeps bouncing back.

WHAT? No Koala banks there?
Maybe they're sleeping through the crisis and don't want to go out on a limb.

This link from this morning is indicative of how quickly this situation is spiraling out of control here in Australia ... The Govt thought they were providing stability but have in fact triggered a looming panic ...

Here's a couple of links that need to be read by those who feel the need for more enlightenment on this subject.JeffH wrote:Sorry DSM, George Bush wasn't content screwing up the US of A, he had to screw up the whole world. History ain't gonna look kindly on this fiasco...

There were those connected to the previous administration (before Bush) who had their hands in this mess, too. Most of the names will be familiar. I'm NOT defending ANYBODY.....as there are far too many greedy bastards who took part in this....but the picture is much broader and started earlier. AND, having heard what Mr. Greenspan said in the hearings today, his hypocrisy and stupidity is even more apparent. (I always thought he was a horrible Chairman of the Federal Reserve)

Re: Totally OT - Japan Banks in deep trouble (Aussie banks too)
Greenspan carries much of the blame. He left interest rates too low too long. He cured a bubble with a much worse bubble. Again, lack of regulation.Wulfman wrote:Here's a couple of links that need to be read by those who feel the need for more enlightenment on this subject.JeffH wrote:Sorry DSM, George Bush wasn't content screwing up the US of A, he had to screw up the whole world.
