Hi,
My prescription has been sent to my DME. They called to say they are awaiting approval of my insurance and then they will call. That should be any day now. My question is how much say will I have when they call? I've been reviewing the machines to determine features and reviews. When the DME calls, can I tell them which machine I want? And the same with the mask? I'm not even sure where my DME is since all they did was leave a message on my voicemail. I'd like to be prepared, so I could use some advice. Oh, and is there a topic on this forum that compares the various machines?
Thanks

There's this link to compare machines, etc.

You'd BETTER know what you want and demand it, otherwise they're liable to give you the cheapest stuff they have.

Re: Waiting on DME
I figured I would have to play the DME dance, but in reality it didn't work out that way. I was quite surprised.
The doctor prescribed an APAP, and I questioned him about that because an unsurance document said CPAP must fail first. The doctor responded with "I'll let the DME deal with that." In fact, the machine he prescribed is fully-data capable, and he takes advantage of that (or, he will, on my first visit back to him in two more months).
When the DME called me to set up a home visit, they told me there were no issues with the insurance company covering the APAP, and that's exactly what they brought.

Re: Waiting on DME
If you can get your doctor (I used my Primary Care doctor) to write a prescription for a specific machine, that may help. You can definitely ask for the script to be for an APAP rather than a CPAP, but I suspect the insurance can use "or generic equivallent" to get around a specific brand and model. An APAP can run in CPAP mode but a CPAP can't auto-adjust.

Thanks all. I'm not sure how my DME will be, but I'll be ready for them.
