HMO insurance and Software/Card Reader

Post by luke » Fri Oct 17, 2008 12:08 pm

Hello,
Newbie here .....I've been researching info on here for 2 weeks now and am wading through TONS of info and trying to sort it all out. First of all I am very impressed with everyone's willingness to help. I've had my first sleep study and go in this monday for my titration. I have HMO type of insurance and when I called them they said everything was covered 100% according to what my doctor said was MEDICALLY NECESSARY. I am going to try to get my doc to prescribe an auto cpap but failing that will settle for the Remstar PRO M series w/ c-flex and HH. My question is this: Do you suppose its possible to put card reader and software on the prescription and have insurance cover this also ? Its not really medically necessary but if insurance pays for it why not?
I want this to go through on the first shot and don't want to mess around too much (and push the insurance co) as it could waste time. I probably will have my doc (general practitioner) write down specific info on the make/model of machine also.
Any thoughts or other experiences?

Thanks.........Luke

Make sure you fight for (at least) the M Series Pro machine. It's fully data-capable.
You can always TRY to get the doc to prescribe the software and reader. It's extremely rare that insurance will go for it, but it doesn't hurt to try. The main problem is, there are no insurance codes for those items......so, there wouldn't be any way for them to pay for it.

If the Force is with you maybe! But not likely, I'd try for the APAP w/ aflex, if that the Pro, I would except anything less. When I got the machine I would find the other stuff. Jim

"Live Long and Prosper", whoops wrong story. Welcome!

P.S. Don't forget the HH, F & P 150 stand alone seems to be the best.
