Card Reader for EncoreViewer / EncorePro

Post by ractar28 » Sat Oct 11, 2008 8:17 pm

Has anyone gotten a "generic" card reader to work with the Encore* software? The thought of paying $50+ for a silly piece of hardware just because it is sold by Respironics bugs the crud out of me. Surely there's an alternative.

Just one, doing without, or write your own software and figure out how to hook a USB port to your XPAP. If you can do that you could make some money at it, if your not gready. Jim

Thank God they decided to take this one device, write some cock-eyed driver for it (I understand the "stock" driver for the product doesn't work and you need the Encore version driver), and fleece everyone instead of writing the information to a cheap little sd-ram card in CSV format. I guess I should count my lucky stars that my m-series takes a "standard" hose and mask and that the humidifier doesn't require special "Respironics" branded water.

Actually the "Respironics" branded distilled water does work best, but you DME has to provide it as "Respironics" doesn't seel to patients. The downside all the "Respironics" branded water, is delivered from the DME with the caps off and half the water has splashed out. Into the opened packages of machine filters you ordered. Jim

I believe the TwoFactors card reader is the only "generic" reader that anyone has successfully gotten working.

This is the card reader I use with Encore Pro.

The card reader Two Factors was selling was a DT-3500, They have been out of stock for 3 months, (you might also say out of business). My two also came from there, the only thing I wasn't smart enough to order them at the same time. Jim

this is a US company selling the card reader - there is also one DME (cpapusa) that sells it - price close to this one - you want the DT 3500 for USB connection so you got to get the one for $49 plus shipping as the other one on that page is serial port not USB even though the picture appears to be USB

twofactors has been out of stock or so ppl say - for eons - their price is better but no point in buying if you can't ever get it - check for recent posts with info on twofactors stock levels

I bought mine there. Note that as someone else mentioned you do not use the driver on the CD sent with the reader but rather the driver with EncorePro or EncorePro Viewer.

I also had to activate the smart card service and set it to "auto" since for some reason the install process did not do that for me. I understand that it is automatically done by the installation software in most cases.

In case anyone needs to do that:
Right click on My Computer then click on "Manage/Services and Applications/Services" Scroll down to "Smart Card" and "Start" the service then right click on Smart Card. When "Properties" comes up set "Start-up type" to Automatic.
