Hose replacement for Resmed

Post by Dennisla » Wed Oct 08, 2008 5:50 am

I got a replacement hose from my DME for my Autoset Vantage.
They sent me a Respironics 6 foot hose replacement instead of the Resmed 2 meter length hose.
So I called and questioned it. They told me it was their standard replacement hose and that was what they sent to everyone. And the only replacement they had. It will be fine to use with my Resmed machine. Don't worry.

The first thing I noticed about this hose was that it was very stiff and not flexible at all. My Resmed hose was very flexible and easily flowed along under the covers. This new hose is so stiff it causes me to pull on the machine during the night. I will probably find my machine off the night stand and on the floor one night.
The other thing i found about this replacement hose was the rubber ends are also very stiff / hard rubber. The Resmed hose was a nice soft flexible rubber.

So my question is: Is it actually ok to use a 6 foot hose in place of a 2 meter hose on a Resmed AutoSet machine?
Or will the difference of length effect the internal sensors resulting in incorrect therapy / reporting?

The difference WILL NOT make a difference!
The machine doesn't know the difference........!

WHY use the new hose? I have NOT replaced mine for over a year -- It's just getting filtered room air pushed throw it?
I only wash it once a month or so and don't even think that's important..... I'm SURE a zillion people will JUMP in and say I'm "CRAZY" but I'm looking at NOT making this into a BIG JOB just a Better way to sleep.
MOST of the things I do is with COMMON SCIENCE "NOT what the JERKS tell me so they can get more $$$... The send you a $4 hose and charge your insurance $7-$10 instead of replacement with the RIGHT one??
You be the JUDGE.........

1 meter = 3.2808399 feet

2 meters = 6.5616798 feet

We deal with the metric system here in Canada. The hose that came with my Resmed S8 AutoSet II is the 2 meter -and- the setting on my machine for that hose reads 2m.

On that basis alone I would take it back and explain why I want a more flexible hose. Tell them to stuff their "standard replacement hose"... that you want an original equipment replacement.

I don't know enough about the workings of these machines to comment on how the extra 1/2 foot will affect the therapy.

My plan is to purchase another hose at some point to have as a backup and to give the other hose plenty of time to dry out when I wash it.

Yea understood, well I'm not using it now. I was going to use it as a backup. As Paul56 said, I want to have it available in case my original Resmed hose is still wet from a cleaning, or for what ever reason. Actually my DME charged my insurance company $60 for that cheep hose. And since were talking money, $25 for 3 replacement filters and $270 for my replacement Swift LT mask. Talk about a markup! Geesh!
