still tired
Hello, did any of you find that you still have excessive sleepiness even after adequate CPAP treatment? I'm getting 7 - 9 hours of sleep every night, it's decent sleep with AHI reported under 1. Usually around 0.5 or less. Yet I still feel extremely tired and can't do anything until I have a nap ... or two...or three.
Re: still tired
Do you have the software and reader to monitor your progress, if you have excessive leaks your machine will not read the data correct and your AHi could appear low and not be treated, espessally if you use a nasal mask. Mouthbreathing causes treatment failure. Jim

Hi, I have the respironics software and card reader. I use a full face mask. The leak is not too bad, around 30 with a quattro mask. I took print outs from my machine to the sleep doctor. He said it looks good but sometimes people with this disorder still feel sleepy even with adequate treatment, or I might have other sleep disorders. He wanted more sleep studies but I can't afford more. He gave me provigil but I do not take drugs. I just wondered if anyone else experienced this problem as well and if it was a mystery or other sleep problems.

He's already had a bite out of the sleep test apple, I don't blame you for not wanting to let him dig into the bottom of the basket. You have the tools you need to find the problem if it's sleep apnea. How long have you been treating correctly with the software, sometimes it takes a few months to feel the results. Do you sleep sound at night or wake up over and over. Silent Gerd can cause sleep problems too. Restless legs also. need to rule out the other health problems too, that what his first bite at the apple was supposed to do. Jim

Re: still tired
GUEST,
I've been on cpap for almost 13 months now and i'm still sleepy and fatigued, I have a few good days and I will only allow myself to take an occasional nap as I can't stand to think about sleeping or napping on a daily basis, I just do not want to get that started, it's a hard habit to break.
I think it's because I have to fiddle with my mask all night long to keep it from shifting around and leaking, the nasal pillows tend to come out/ break loose everytime I move, the snoring and gasping for air used to keep me awake before cpap treatment and now it's the mask that causes all the problems...
It is so hard to find the right mask and for it to fit, especially the headgear!
Goodluck and I hope you can figure out and fix whatever it is...

Re: still tired
I started using a Resmed S7 LIghtweight CPAP machine for my severe OSA in 2004. I felt wonderful after several nights of using it. I stopped dozing off during the daytime. Since then, I had several surgeries, e.g. ovuluuplasty, tonsilectomy, turbinate reduction which helped somewhat alleviated my OSA and breathing difficulties. This year (2008), I am starting to feel tired and groggy again. I had a sleep study this year and the sleep center recommended that I change my pressure setting from 12 to 18. They also suggested that I get a full face masked with a chin strap as air would leak because my mouth would open during sleep (which I did). They also suggested the benefit of getting a CPAP with 3+ EPR. However, with this high pressure, I feel like I am drowning with air most of which goes into my stomach causing me gas and discomfort. Also, my machine only has one pressure level (I'm currently applying w/ my insurance to get a new machine with an EPR. I also read that an 18 pressure level needs a Bipap and not just a CPAP. Is this true?). Since my last sleep study, I also worked to lose weight (I lost 11 lbs. so far from 170 to 159 with a height of 5' 4". I plan to lose more until I reach my ideal weight-height ration). Although I am not as tired as before my CPAP use, I still am feeling tired and sleepy. I was wondering if anyone can give any advice on how can I regain my condition just right after I tried CPAP. Thanks.
Re: still tired
I sleep better on my BiPaP when I am sleeping but still don't sleep enough at night. I usually go to bed at about 12:00 amGuest wrote:Hello, did any of you find that you still have excessive sleepiness even after adequate CPAP treatment? to 2:00 am. I don't fall asleep fast and I wake up often through the night. I'm usually up for the day by 7:00 am.
