customizedpillow

Post by imsleepynomore » Fri Oct 03, 2008 10:43 am

I'm new to this web ,have been reading for a few weeks and picked up a wealth of info ,last night I thought of trimming off edges of my foam contour pillow to allow my mask to fit in space cutout ,this is a cheap fix to a pillow that supports my neck, head and shoulders comfortably but always bumps my mask causing air leak I'll let you all know how this works anyone have other tricks that don't cost a lot. I just ordered my repacement machine to replace my rental as I found my insurance was limited to a small amount for DMG and the supplier informed me to purchase from would be more than what my insurance would {which they would not pay as I had reached my max for durable goods, go figure any why I hooked to this chat line.

May I offer a suggestion before you start cutting? Use plastic wrap (Saran Wrap, etc) and you can compress an area of the pillow, wrap it several times, and it won't expand back out. This might be helpful without altering the pillow physically.

Just a thought if you do decide to go cutting, this might give you some ideas.

FYI

I just sent one of these pillows back and got my $$$ back.
I thought it was worthless. YMMV

I am on my way to the store to get a cheap pillow and start cutting.

1) All you have to do is put your head on the edge of a foam contour pillow, with your face hanging off the side. Takes a little while to get the hang of it, but it's the easiest solution.

2) If you INSIST on cutting up a pillow, use an electric carving knife. Cutting foam is a pain in the butt. An electric carving knife will help.

Cheers,
Barbara

Babette, do you turn the pillow to either side, the higher end as well as the lower? We've been experimenting but again he can't decide which feels better. I tried it out myself and it's not at all comfortable for me either way.

fwiw - I have one of those pillows and use it every nite. It's OK but I wouldn't pay $60 for it tho (didn't pay zip). I do like the cutting or taping ideas. Both should help make a difference.

The Pillow Pal from Peggy (PJWalman?) works really well and is affordable if you can sew. Or just use her template to cut your memory foam pillow. I put the notch right on my shoulder.

Are you the same person who started this thread? Just curious that the name spelling is different.
Would like to know exactly what shape you decided to cut your pillow that apparently worked well for you.

I found or did not find in this case, the old "foam rubber" pillow
does not exist anymore.
I finally found this one:

I slept on it last night. It was ok, but the jury is still out.
I'm going to basically cut off each corner, where my mask hits.

......and thanks for the electric knife idea.

yep you've got my pillow now just cut sides at 45 degree angles like you took bites out of outer edges to fit your mask and head gear

That's the pillow we have and cutting the corners off at an angle would be the answer. Now for the silly question, our pillow is covered with a nice zippered velour cover, so I guess we take that off first before slicing but what happens to the cover when we put it back on? Cutting and sewing are not my strong point.

DoriC, I took the velour cover off.
Sliced and diced....put the velour cover back on.
I just folded the loose material over, like I was wrapping a package,
and pinned it w/a bobbie pin.
I put a pillow case on it and it just hangs loose and I just kind
of tucked it under the pillow.
Gave it a test run.
I think it is going to work great.

More sliceing and dicing could be in order.
.....stay tuned.

Sounds like a plan, now we just have to borrow an electric carving knife. Stay tuned.
