No teeth -- which mask is best

Post by sleepycarol » Thu Oct 02, 2008 6:07 am

Okay for all of those inquiring minds -- this post is in regards to my son-in-law's aunt.

She has lost all of her teeth except for one front tooth. Of course, her cheeks are all sunk in, along with her mouth. She has a long narrow face to start with and protuding cheek bones.

She refuses to try a nasal mask of any type. She wants a full face mask and has been unable to get one to seal (she has tried a couple from the DME) but doesn't have a clue which ones.

Any suggestions to compensate for the loss of cheek area?

Perhaps one of the "hybrid" type w/nasal pillows and mouth cushion?

Try a larger mask that fits under the chin. You may need to adjust the bridge of the nose out a bit for skin protection.
