Luksusowa? Chopin? Blue Ice? All of the above? Other?
Jeff, we stock Luksusowa for entertaining only because we have a friend who suffers grain allergies. Any potato vodka without grains is just fine for that purpose.

My initial curiosity about Busa's heightened AHI ran along these lines: 1) alcohol exacerbated AHI, 2) grain exacerbated AHI, or 3) both factors contributing to that heightened AHI?

Now I have another reason to step up my homebrew!

Lets see, 80 shilling Scottish ale helps you sleep, while a blonde ale can keep you up half the night.......

Time to clean out the mash tun, where did I put my hops?
Anyone see my yeast....

Wow a light just went on I should've been tested years ago, I quit drinking because of killer side affects. But now with my testing numbers in hand it all makes sence. My O2 drops to 70% in normal REM sleep, what would it be with 3 Black Velvets and water???? We all need to drink up and go for a split night test!!!!

Sssshhhh. Don't post so loud. And please turn that blasted light off. Last night's science experiment didn't go so well for some of us.

I did quite well last night. I drank 2 Fullers 8 Shiners and blasted it all with two very large Sky Vodka and Water drinks. I was pretty bad off. Wife put me to bed around 11:00 pm, but here is the best part. I slept until 7:30, got up and drained out some of the liquids and climbed back into bed. I clocked 10 hrs 30 min on the ole CPAP last night, had an AI of 0.... thats right ZERO. The HI was at 5.7 and I feel like a million bucks today.

I guess that I should mention that I took 4 ibuprofen and a large glass of water before I went to bed.

On to another experiment. Just need to find another tasty beverage to try.....

Busa, what is your normal AI, HI on nights when you are not engaged in such research? Do you have any possible data with no drink at all ?

We are your internal organs... spiritually channeling as -SWS unknowingly types this at our command...

Ouch!

Huh? ....Wha? Is Busa drinking again in the name of science...??? That selfless man!

I will willingly admit that I love my Vodka and have a few of them before bed some nights. OK, quite a few nights. I never get "drunk", don't stumble, slur, fight or blackout. Family never complains. I have no issues at work. I just have a terribly busy and stressful life, and use it to relax. I think.
Anyway, my numbers are wonderful. HI and AHI run around 2 to 3 and my AI is usually zero. Or maybe 1, sometimes.
I do, however, find it tremendously interesting that it affects your airway. I find my sinuses getting all swollen when I drink. I never knew why. I thought it was allergies, and it looks like it is, indeed. I have two autoimmune diseases, so the fact that alcohol makes these go in to overdrive is fascinating. And depressing.
Does everything I like have to be so bad for you?????????

It seems that -SWS has nothing to worry about. Apparently, according to one study anyway, he is immune to the effects of alcohol:
"Conversely, alcohol did not affect SWS in a group of age-matched healthy control subjects." -- http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/ ... 01-109.htm (end of 5th paragraph under heading "Alcohol’s Effects on Sleep Physiology."
And Busa may want to volunteer for research along these lines, from the same Web page:
"To determine alcohol’s full effect on REM sleep, investigators would need to administer an additional alcohol dose in the middle of the night, thereby causing alcohol’s peak concentrations to coincide with the majority of REM sleep time. No such studies have been conducted, however."

Whew! That's good news! As you can tell from my previous post, every now and then I'll imbibe in the spirits.

...Or maybe it's the other way around!

There are those nights in which I run out of alcohol or the extremely rare occasion that I do not want to drink. When I first started on CPAP I did not drink so that I could base line everything. Once I readjusted the pressure from what the glorious tech told the doc I should be at, I found a good baseline and a good nights sleep. If I do not drink at all, my AHI is usually around 5 to 8, AI usually always is 0.3 to 1.2 with the remainder HI of course.

I was just really shocked that my numbers were so good when I was so drunk. The research shall continue. I am now in search on a non grain based alcohol.

Philosophical Question of the Day-
"All Things in Moderation": Classic wisdom or merely a case of moderation in excess?

Aristotle, Buddha, and Busa's internal organs will comprise the debate team arguing in favor of classic wisdom...

Having been diagnosed with OSA just last Sunday, let me say that this thread has given me some hope. In fact I decided to celebrate with my first ice cold one since then!

I look forward to experimenting to find the perfect blend and number of beers to bring my AHI down when I get my machine. I think I'll start practicing with Hoegarden tonight.

Cheers!

This is what I've found as a result of my experimentation. If I have one (sorry, I can't remember ever having only one) make that three or more cool, frosty beverages I have no problems with a rise in AHI. My AHI is constantly under 2.5. I think the reason for this is that I am not as active in my sleep (turning from side to side) as when I have none (sorry, I can't remember not having at least a couple). I have found , however, that my VS goes through the roof and my leak line looks like a chain saw blade.
