I lay there in the morning and just breathe the moist cool air, dreading having to take the mask off and get moving for the day. With my allergies I'm at my best in the morning after breathing filtered air all night. Non hoseheads don't know what they are missing! I must say, however that this point was not easily arrived at by me...

that first breath always smells like when a wire shorts to me. Sort of electrical with a hint of plastic.

Without the mask

Post by Snuffle-nose » Tue Jul 05, 2005 5:08 am

When I take my snorkel mask off I always feel that I want to keep breating the nice fresh filtered air, I too have got allegies in the sinuses and within a few minutes without the snorkel mask I do the 1st thing I do int the morning......

You guessed it!!!! I'd started sniffling and snuffling plus a few good sneezes to start my day. Oh phoooy!!!! Same routine everyday without fail, doesn't clear off until about lunchtime when the air around me is a bit warmer.

Then after night falls, arrives with couple more sneezes to start it off, I often mess up my PJ's whist at it! [wet sneeze] Plus I'd blow my nose contantly until beddy bye. After putting some decongestion spray in my tempermental sinuses I start to hook up for a peacful nice sleep on my "Snorkle machine" with my mask.

Ever wonder why they call me "Snuffle Nose"???? The reason is thru out the day/night hours I am often sniffing and snuffling!!!!!!
Been on CPAP for a while.....I had moderate apenoa

I don't use my cpap machine like I should because I wake up with "wet sinuses". I feel like I have a bad cold coming on after I have used it. I can't relate to all of the posts regarding the fresh cpap hose air. I wish I could.

Maybe you're using too much humidity.

When I first unmask in the morning, I smell a scent reminiscent of baby powder. And it's been a long time since we've had a baby in the house.

That phenomena has been widely reported here. Try a search for "baby powder".

I usually don't breathe at all until I have at least half-a-cup of coffee in me...

Seriously, I tend to breathe deeper after taking the mask off. And I don't notice any off-smell before or after. I use a citrus wipe on my mask before bed, so I get that smell for the first few minutes at night.

Great post.

The air always smells a little old and stale to me when I take the mask off. It smells kinda like dust and sweat. Blech. I don't like it....and YES I do take a shower every night, and change my sheets regularly!!

Then again, I"m not crazy about the medical-plastic smell I get when I first put the mask on. It kind of stings my nose.

I was thinking about this when I got up this morning The first thing I smell is dust I hate it, and I never notice a dusty smell any time other than first thing in the morning after I have removed my mask. I like the cool fresh air of my cpap lots better

Me too, sort of, I get this whiff of something like talc. Its not really there and I don't know why I get it, but its like one to two breaths.

Weird.

Hi Zart----yes--I have this same issue--so you are not alone!! Here in the desert --Arizona--- my first couple of breaths in the morning definitely have a -dry-BABY POWDER smell. I keep looking around the bedroom to see if there is any powder spilled or something but I never find anything. I thought it was just me! LOL!

The two quotes above nail it for me, but I do enjoy the feeling of breathing with my CPAP for a few minutes after I wake up.

I get a wonderful smell when I take off my mask! I do use the Pursleep Lavender and Rosa mixed together. I can smell THAT when I wake up, since it's in the air. Before that, I got the baby powder smell. Love the Pursleep.

When I put the mask on at night, there is an immediate sense of relief - like each of my alveoli are suddenly happy. I don't smell anything odd or unexpected in the morning upon mask removal, but I'll keep my nose alert for it.

I told my primary care physician that I wish I could leave my mask on all day, but it would probably scare children. She said many of her xPAP-using patients say the same thing (about withing they could leave it on - not about scaring children).
