Hello to all,
A long time since I have posted on this web site. Just wanted to share with you my CPAP experience.
In November 2007, I have started to use a Resmed machine S8.
In the first months, I felt some improvements, but not so much. I was able to spend the whole night with the mask though.
I started to post on this forum, and I got the advises to adapt the pressures (which the technician did not do).
I managed to improve how I felt, by setting the pressure to Min 8 and Max 20.
After this setting, in the morning I was feeling sometimes better, and sometimes quite bad (half / half), but it was an improvement.
I received the advise to monitor my nights using "Resscan" software. I managed to have a friend of mine bring one back from the US (not possible to get one from France).
After 6 months of sw monitoring, I found out (and was able to demonstrate it to the sleep doctor) that the Resmed machine was not reacting to apneas which occur when the CPAP pressure is above 10. I understand that this is to avoid to trigger central apneas.
But the analysis of my sleep showed that the resmed establishes at a pressure of 10 to 11 for the whole night, and when apneas occur, the machine does not react at all. And I could have 10 apnea on one hour time frame with the Resmed pressure at 10 to 11.
The doctor, based on this analysis, decided to change the machine, and I am now using a Kaerys machine (http://www.kaerys.com/).
The settings are Min 8, Max 16, no more limitations of pressure to react to apnea, and there is a "Bump" feature, which helps removing the apnea.
I feel much better with this machine, much more stable quality of sleep than with the Resmed.
I still have some bad nights, even I spend 100% of my time with the mask, and I intend now to search in the direction of central apnea.
I hope my experience will help other people.
Best regards,
Pierre

That is a cool looking little machine. I wish I could read French. How much do they cost over there?

SW is free to download, but the interface cable is very specific and can't be purchased anywhere...Slinky wrote:Thanks for sharing, Pierre. You can even download the software from the website. A link to the download site is provided. Dang the FDA!!!
