Trouble fitting full-face mask

I just registered and have a problem (only diagnosed 2 weeks ago) and I have changed full-face masks 3 times and still am not sure if I have the right one. I have to pull the straps fairly tight to get a seal and then my face is swelled in the morning.

I have successfully used the ResMed Ultra Mirage Full Face in a small size with medium cushion. There are 6 different versions of this one mask, so getting the mask fitted correctly is very important. I could never use the Comfortful2 as it always leaked and was a pain to fasten the ball locks. I also use a Hybrid in a medium size (it comes with all three sizes of cushions and 3 sizes of nasal pillows) and interchange it with the UMFF as needed.

You didn't say which ones you had tried or the problems with them.

the ONLY way to size it right is by measuring your face for the vertical dimension, then measuring the cushion.

You measure the cushion with an imaginary "center" line at the top of the cushion down to the bottom in the center where it makes contact with your face. Your face vertical dimension should land the same or "within" that of the mask measurement. This is so the cushion doesn't land in your mouth should it open slightly. If it is too small that is what will happen, should measure as shown below:


NOTE: IF you find it is sized correctly after measuring, the leak you experience may NOT be leaking from the cushion, it most likely is leaking around the swivel elbow as the Quattro is a defective mask, one the manufacturer has failed to acknowledge or do anything about since it was released.

But you can try some of that white plumber teflon tape and remove the elbow and put 4 or 5 wraps out where it swivels in the base of the mask and that may stop it. The other place it leaks is with the flapper valve, if your pressure is not all that high that valve will freak out and not make up its mind if it wants to stay open or closed.
